Kara-Justice`s birthstory
So I started having contractions on Thrusday the 26th at around 8 pm. They were very strong but only about 10 mins apart. I figured it was the real thing but just went on with my night.. Ate dinner, got Luke showered and in bed, and was watching tv with my husband. By 9 they were still coming strong but still 10 mins apart. At this point I was sure they were not going to stop or slow down and I was just going to have to wait through the night for them to get closer together but I knew it wouldnt be long... So I called my sister to come get Luke.. Woke Luke up and got him ready to go. By 10 pm still 8-10 mins apart I called the midwife who said to lay down and try to get some sleep.. (HAHA!) I didnt bother trying to get any sleep at that point. I just continued to watch TV and get my bags ready... Told my husband to shower.. that kinda stuff. Then just before midnight we noticed that we had no dog food.. and that we NEEDED to get some before we left.. so we headed out to find a open store.... Now remember I am having serious stop me in my tracks and hang on to the wall contractions and Im in the car driving all over to find a store that sells large breed dog food at midnight! NONE of our local stores were open.... and my contractions were getting closer (6-7 mins) so we headed home dog foodless.
So we are back home.. its about 1 am I figure now I will try to rest.. I get in bed and can only stand to stay there for about 30 mins.. and got NO rest either.. but while I was in bed they started coming 4-5 mins apart so we got up and headed out! We got to the birth center just after 2 am.. I was 4-5 cm.. and I got in the shower on the ball.. (wonderful way to labor) with my husband sitting right next to me... I stayed in the shower for almost two hours when it started getting much more intense.. I was checked again and was 7cm!!
So I got in the tub just after 4 am.. The nurse and midwife were awesome with reminding me to stay calm and focused.. (they were the only two people besides my husband that I had to see the entire time and I LOVED that!!) So in the tub things were pretty intense.. I stayed on my knees and rocking most of the time, leaning over the edge holding on to my husband.. The nurse and midwife stayed back and let me do my thing, only whispering to me to relax my shoulders and let go. Transistion was hard! I couldnt find a comfortable posistion... at one point the midwife asked me if I would check to see if I could feel the baby.. and I couldnt and for a second I felt soo discouraged.. as if not being able to feel the baby ment I had a while to go... but thankfully right after I felt like pushing... I tried a few little short pushes while on my knees.. then rolled over to a more sitting (leaning back) position and pushed a little push and my water broke (soo cool to experiance since my water was broken by the doctor with my son early in labor.) I announced that it broke and the widwife said `YUP` I got back on my knees and could feel her head and hair and I just rubbed her head and I pushed two more short pushes and her head was out and one more push and she was out and screaming!!! 5:54 am!! I grabbed her and I sunk down into the water so we could snuggle and stay warm... we stayed in the tub for about 15 mins.. I was sooo in love!! When her cord stopped pulsing (about 15 mins later) my husband cut the cord and held her while I got out of the tub and walked to the bed.. he handed her right back to me (both skin on skin) while I delivered the placenta.. We stayed skin to skin for over an hour and a half before my husband (or anyone else) really got to hold her. I was sooo happy that it turned out just like I had planned it too! My husband was perfect and so proud of me... my baby was sooo pretty and nursing like a pro... she nursed pretty much non stop that first day.. (and hasnt stopped 13 days later)
it was the perfect drug free water birth I had wanted!! and quick too! From first contraction to birth it was only 9ish hours.. and only 4 at the birth center!
