Kevin-Michael`s birthstory
Well, after spending all day trying to relax and feeling more and more uncomfortable, I finally started having contractions (I never had BH) around 5-6 pm on Friday evening. They were 7 minutes apart for awhile, then got to a regular 4-5 minutes apart around 11 pm or so as DH and I passed the time playing cards and watching tv. Then, just as I was getting excited about this progress, they started coming further apart again!! DH went to lay down and try to get some rest, and I woke him back up at 2:30 am to tell him that they were coming at 4-5 minutes finally for an hour so it was time to go. We got to the hospital and checked in, and at 3:30 when they checked me I was not quite to 4 cm, but they still let me stay. I stayed on the monitors for the next hour and a half and then at 5 am was at 5 cm. By this point, my mom had arrived and they let me get up and walk for a half hour then come be monitored for 10 minutes. This went well, and the contractions were definitely getting stronger, but nobody realized just how quickly things were moving until at about 6:30 when I suddenly had the urge to push! They called the nurse in and checked me and I was fully dilated and ready to go...but the doctor wasn`t there yet! So then I had to try to breathe through those as best as I could to give him a chance to get there. When he did, I finally got to push- holy cow that is intense!! They put a mirror up for me, which on the one hand was great to see my progress, but when I first looked I thought oh man, there`s no way, how is that going to be possible?!? LOL but with my DH on one side and mom on the other, I did it and little Kevin Michael came out (with his fist raised up over his head!) screaming his lungs out! He scored a 9 and a 10 on the APGAR and was absolutely beautiful! I`m glad everything went so well, and I didn`t need any pain medication- couldn`t have done it without my awesome DH and a GREAT team of nurses (one of whom even stayed after her shift was over because she wanted to stay through the delivery with me!)
