Maisie-Anne`s birthstory

Went to bed on Thursday nite at about 11.30 and woke again at 11.55, had terrible back ache and tummy cramps, which I had been having since the previous Saturday. I already knew I was 2cm dilated and about 50-60% effaced, so guessed that this was it, the time had come. I went to the toilet and some of my waters broke, I later found out that my baby girl had been head down and to the right of my tummy so the water had been plugged by her and the left hand water had gone.

I managed to get dressed and get downstairs to call my partner, who was working nites and thankfully my son had gone on a sleep over at a friends house, so I didn`t need to worry about sorting him out. My partner was on the way home and I was talking to my mother in law on the phone. Steve got home about 2.30am and we grabbed a few bits and bobs for my case and went to the hospital. I had called them previously and they had said to come in, the contractions were coming so fast, with hardly and gap between them and the intensity of them was getting more and more. We got to the hospital about 3am and after a shot of pethidine in the leg and LOTS of gas and air, the pain was worse and worse and was still only 2cm dilated, although fully effaced. I told the midwife that I needed something else, like an epidural, she advised me that there was a wait as there was a c-section in the wings, she then examined me and said that it wasn`t worth having one as the baby was going to be out in about 2mins, she kept asking me if I needed to push and I didn`t, then al of a sudden I needed to push, after 3 pushes, I was told to stop pushing but it was too late as I could help the next push from coming, Maisie flew out on the 4th push and my partner said it was so fast, he thought she would hit the bottom of the bed. She had the cord round her neck, but that was sorted out, she was very purple as she was born so fast and because of the cord too. But she was put in my arms and I held her and everything was fine, my girl was here and I fell in love straight away, my partner and I had time together with her after she had been cleaned up and dressed and she had a feed of about 40mls of formula and then he phoned all the family and friends. He went home to have a shower and get some sleep at about 6am and then they put me on the ward at about 8.30am, I felt like it was about 3 in the afternoon and once on the ward I sleep for a while, I told the midwife that I wanted a 6hr discharge and after some lunch, another sleep, feeding Maisie again and a check over for both of us, we were allowed to go home, we got back at bout 4.30 in the afternoon, and began to relax in the comfort of ur own surroundings.

She is fab and so settled and calm, despite the fast and erratic birth, although I said she was my last, I think I may well want another, but not quite yet!!!
