Ahmad`s birthstory
Was due for induction on 12/01/09 (Tuesday).
We went in at 10:00 am Sunday 29 Nov for a Bio Physical Profile to measure amnio levels and get an estimated fetal weight.
As I had slight bleeding and some irregular contractions that very morning they checked my cervix. Doctor said `You`re 5 cms dilated! You`ve got a high threshold for pain - you`re not going home today!`
They started me on IV fluids and anti biotics (I was GBS+) and told me in 2 hours they would start pitocin thru the IV. Let me say here that I planned to go au natural, like I did 3 times before - no pain relief. My contractions got so strong and I was not handling them well at all. I think I was so very nervous, it HAS been 18 years since my last and my body is so different.
I told the nurse that I don`t want the pitocin b/c the pains were already so unbearable. I was at the time 6 cms dilated. I struggled with the decision to get an epidural (I am deathly afraid of the needle so close to my spine) BUT I finally decided to get it especially as I needed the pitocin. I got the epidural which was difficult b/c of the contractions that were close and getting more intense by the moment. It didn`t work! I felt everything like before, and an hour later, the anesthesiologist came back to top me off thru the catheter. He said, `do you feel coldness going through your back?` I told him I only felt coldness on my left. SO the needle entered my back at an angle and screwed up the entire thing. I did go really numb for about 1 hour and luckily it started to wear off when it was time to push, So I pushed about 3 times and baby was born.
A beautiful baby boy (of course) and my husband and I are so happy he is here and healthy. I am breastfeeding exclusively and he has latched on and fed very hungrily a few times well. Today he got a clean bill of health from his pediatrician.
I am ok, just have some stitches and it`s challenging to move around easily. My husband has been such a help with assisting me to get off the bed etc and also with handing me baby to feed and burping him etc.
I am wishing congratulations to all those who have had their little ones.
To those anxiously awaiting the birth of their little ones, I am telling you - it`ll soon come and in the right timing. I was only 3 days overdue and I was getting a bit anxious as to `when`.
Thank you for taking the time to read my birth story.
