On September 1st I went to work and instead of doing much work I researched and googled how to know when your water breaks. The previous night I woke up and found myself trickling. Each time I would get up and go to the bathroom to find my bladder full so I figured it was probably just my bladder but I still had that 'inkling' that it might not be. My husband told his sister about it and she said that I would know when my water breaks because it will keep coming and be hot because its been in my stomach for months. Well, it wasn't steady it just gushed or trickled out every now and then. I read in my research that you can't use the muscles you tighten to hold urine to hold the fluid. I had gotten to the point of confusion that I couldn't even remember what muscles you squeeze to hold pee! lol I tried every muscle and couldn't hold it in when it would come and I was changing my pad several times. Well I went to to the doctor on the 2nd at 9 am and the nurse told me to get undressed because I would be check for dialation. Well, I didn't because I didn't want to sit for who knows how long in what ever was coming out of me. The midwife came in and I explained my situation. She gave me the liner they use in the hospital to sit on as she examined me. She said that she would have to go inside a little to get a sample of the fluid on the test strip. It started running out so all she had to do was just hold the strip under me! She said if it turned blue than it wasn't urine. It came out as blue as can be! She said to be academically sound she would still check in on the microscope. She came back and said that I was the 2nd person within the 30 minutes of appointments that she had to send to labor and delivery!
They gave me antibiotics to prevent infections and pitocin. My nurse (male) and the med student (male) each examined me for dialation to compare what they thought (OMG). I thought the midwife checking me was uncomfortable. They said about 2.5 - 3 and thick! Thick! I don't think so....lol. I didn't start to feel contractions until about 5:30 pm. I told my husband to get me that epidural. The med student (female) told him that the monitor was saying that I wasn't having ANY contractions and that if I got the epidural too early the baby will go to sleep! My husband got upset. The thing is the monitor was saying that I was having contractions when we were sitting around watching Maury but as soon as Dr. Phil comes on and the pain arrived the monitor says nothing! They checked me again and I was 4.5 cm. Well, they gave me some medicine that would not stop me from feeling the contractions while they got the epidural ready. They asked if it was working. I told them no, what is it suppose to do. They asked if I felt light headed, I said yeah. I still didn't understand the point. It made me extremely drowsy and I would drift off but I would knock out of it when the contractions came. It was frustrating. Right after I got the epidural they checked me again and I was 9.5 cm! I pushed a little bit in a few positions and they said that they would just let the pitocin and gravity (they sat me all the way up and gapped open) take course rather than have me to push like crazy. They would come in and check every now and then and have me to push when I felt the contraction. The thing was I wasn't sure until after the contraction was over that I was having it so the nurse had to watch the monitor and TELL ME when I was having contractions! I pushed and everyone commented on how much hair she has and asked if I wanted a mirror to see. NO, I wanted her out of me...lol. The final push they told me to stop pushing and breath and the nurse ran to the door and yelled for the midwife to hurry in. She came in running as Makaylah was coming out...lol.
She came out fine. They did have to do a code blue because she went limp at one point. No one bothered to tell us about that. I found out when one of my nurses asked if they took her to NICU or just did a code blue and sent them down. We also wasn't made aware of any jaundice issue until we were discharged. We were all packed up and ready to head out the door when they checked her and said it was it in the high risk category and needed to see if the doctor would still discharge us. They had given us a choice of leaving Friday night and coming back up on Sunday morning to have her jaundice check or stay until Saturday. Of course I would sick of their bed and wanted to get out of there. She came back and the doctor said we could take her.
Weight: She was 5 lbs 6 oz when we were discharged on 09/04. As of 09/06 she is 5 lbs 13 ounces.
