Forest-Anthony`s birthstory
I was three days overdue, so we had an appointment for induction at the hospital on Tuesday the 11th at 6:30 a.m. I couldn`t fall asleep until midnight the night before, and I had to wake up at 4:30 a.m. So when we got to the hospital, I was still so tired. We signed our papers and stuff while the nurse got my IVs ready. I had strep b, so I needed to get in antibiotics as well as the pitocin. I was 3 cm dilated and 80% effaced when I arrived. Something was wrong with the IV machine, so by the time they got it working it was 8:00 a.m. I was already having contractions on my own every 2-3 minutes, but they weren`t very strong. So they started the pitocin and at 12 they came in to check me. I had not progressed. The doctor then broke my water. After that, things started to speed up fast. I started feeling the contractions in my back really bad. All I could do was sit on the birth ball and lean over the bed while my boyfriend rubbed my back. In between the contractions I was fine, but when I had one I would just cry. I wanted to do a natural birth (no pain meds) but the pitocin made the contractions so strong and close that I could not handle it anymore. At 2:30 I asked for an epidural. They checked me and I was at 5 cm. I got the epi around 4:00, and it did not hurt at all compared to the contractions. I felt sooo much relief and could finally relax. I wanted to try to sleep because I had not slept at all and I was very weak because I wasn`t allowed to eat. I couldn`t sleep though, so I just rested. At 9:30 they checked me again and I was at 9 1/2 cm. I asked could I please wait an hour or so before they called the doctor because I was so tired I was afraid I wouldn`t be able to push. They said she would be back in about 45 min. She came in at 10:00 p.m and said it was time to have a baby. The baby was already very low, so I didn`t have too much work to do. I threw up a few times while pushing, which pushed him further down. I pushed for about 20 min before he was born. He was so big though that it was smashing his cord during my contractions, so the doctor used to vaccum suction cup on the last few pushes to get him out faster. I got to touch his head as it was coming out which was so crazy! It really motivated me to push him the rest of the way out. When he came out he was blue and they had to take him over and give him oxygen right away so I didn`t get to hold him for about 20 min. They also gave him a shot in his leg and he cried and it made me cry too :(. Then they brought him over to me and it was the best feeling ever! Everyone was so suprised when we weighed him that he weighed 9 lb 5 oz and I was able to deliver vaginally. I am a really small girl, weighed only 110 lbs before pregnant. The doctor said it was becasue I had a really good shaped pelvis...so I got lucky. And amazingly, I did not tear except for a few stitches on the inside, I did not rip back at all. I am so happy with my baby boy and have such a better appreciation of my body and being a woman!!
