Birth Story
On the morning of July 28 th, 2008 I awoke to throwing up, AGAIN!
This was becoming my constant companion; puke.
I had spent the whole weekend throwing up and I couldn’t take another day of it. Also, at 8 months pregnant, I had only gained 15 pounds and had lost 6 of it to throwing up. I knew something seemed a little off. I called the Dr. just to see if I could bump my appointment a day. I was supposed to have an appointment on the 29 th, but there were no openings, so the Dr said to just go on it to labor and delivery. I was not pleased about this at all. I mean, I was just throwing up! I just wanted someone to give me something to keep the food down. I didn’t wanna be one of those women who show up at the hospital only to be sent home to play the “waiting game”.
I reluctantly showed up at the hospital and gave my information. The lady then took me on up to the triage. Once there, they started hooking me up to machines. The nurse asked how I was feeling. Fine. I just want to stop throwing up. She looks at the monitor, looks at my husband, looks back at me and says “you’re feeling fine?” YES! I just want to stop throwing up!!! She said “Honey, you aren’t going anywhere but to the delivery room. Your contractions are a minute and a half apart.” She checked and sure enough, I was already dilated to 7 and was almost 100% thinned out.
We were taken to the delivery room where I hung out until it was time to push.
I cannot have an epidural due to the fact that I have a blood clotting disorder. They have to give me medication to help create platelets so my blood will clot. The epidural medication actually counteracts with the blood clotting medication and it can cause me to bleed out. Therefore, I am not allowed to have an epidural.
So I was sitting in the delivery room just hanging out and all of a sudden.. OH MY GOD I HAVE TO PUSH! So the nurse came in and I said “I need to push NOW! Baby is RIGHT THERE” she said “work through it and hold out for a couple more contractions. Your Dr. is in another delivery right now.” I said “Then get someone else!!”
So the nurse checked and ran out of the room to get the Dr.
Dr. comes running in and as she is putting her gown (plastic) on, the baby was coming out. My husband was Velcro-ing her gown behind her neck as the baby came out. The Dr. literally caught the baby in just enough time.
And as hard as this is to believe, I felt the baby come out… but I never felt a single contraction up until I felt the pressure of her coming out. With my first daughter, I didn’t feel any contractions either, but I thought that was because I was so nervous and excited and entering the “unknown” that I figured I had just blocked them out with excitement. But this time, when I got to the hospital I was much further along in labor and my contractions were on top of each other and I still had no idea I was in labor.
It was such an amazing experience and I honestly cannot wait to do it again! Bringing a child into this world is so rewarding and it really makes your life complete!

I was set to be induced on Monday, October 25th. Had my final appt on Friday, the 22nd. Went in for my appt at 9:00am. Everything was still set for Monday morning for induction. The reason for being induced was because baby had stopped growing and they thought it would be best to go ahead and take her.
So i leave my appt around 11:00am. (i had an NST that appt). After leaving, i stopped at Tim Hortons and got some breakfast for the family. Returned home and finished the final chapters in a book i had been reading.
Around 1:15pm i told my husband i was feeling pressure, but had not had any contraction, no bloody show, nothing of that nature. I told him i didn't wanna go to L&D and them send me home because i simply had to poop. So i waited around for a bit. At 2:17 i got in the shower to see if that would help lessen the pressure. Upon getting in teh shower i felt almost like i had to push. Hurried out of the shower and told Jason that i thought it was time to go. Called my grandma and dropped the 3 kids off with her.
We made it to the hospital around 2:50. As i stood up out of the car, i fell to the ground. Again, still had no contractions that i was able to feel, but had the urge to push. I literally crawled into the hospital. This guy, who i think was a security guard, however we will call him God, came running over with a wheelchair. They took me straight up to L&D.
I was admitted at 2:52pm. A nurse came in to check me to see what was going on and i looked at her and said "I need to push" She hurried and checked me and yelled "We need a room, sheis delivering now!"
I was 10cm, head was coming out. They wheel me to a room where i start pushing immediately. The dr came in and asked if my water had broken. I told her no. She said "i think it did" Then upon pushing out the babies head, there was a POP. My water broke as the baby made her way into the world.
Her head came out with no issues at all. As i was pushing out her shoulders, she got stuck. I didn't know this at the time, but my husband said it scared him because her face was turning blue. The nurse actually started pushing down on my belly to help get her out. The dr was stretching me down there and it was PAINFUL! Anyway, they are finally able to get her out and she is just perfect. The reason her shoulders got stuck, i later found out, was because my cervix was VERY low during pregnancy, and i guess it didn't open 100% on one side due to the angle it was at. Therefore her shoulders got stuck.
Anyway, we were admitted to the hospital at 2:52pm and Baby was born at 3:01pm. i KNEW i had to push. LOL! We named her Meadow October Sky N. She weighed in at 4lbs 14oz and was just under 18inches long. She is perfectly heathly even though she was smaller than the drs had projected.
As i was holding my new bundle of joy, the nurses and dr is delivering the placenta and the dr is unable to get it all out. Then i felt a huge GUSH. blood was everywhere. I was hemorrhaging. I have a blood clotting disorder in which my blood does not properly clot. This has never been an issue in past deliveries because they have always been able to give me the clotting agent before i delivered. This time, things happened so fast they were unable to get me that before i delivered. They gave me some pitocin and my clotting agent after delivery to try and help with the bleeding. In the meantime, the dr is still unable to get the placenta out. I was rushed into surgery to have a D&C done. I was knocked out for that and was in surgery for about an hour. I woke up around 7pm Friday night. I was monitored very closely for blood loss while i was in the hospital. My CBC levels dropped to 8.0 and the dr said if it dropped to 7.9, a blood transfusion would be required. I was very lucky to not have dropped below 8.0.
I was very worried about delivery this time around. Last October, my son was born with amniotic band syndrome and was born without his left hand. It came as a shock to us in the delivery room, as it was never picked up on any ultrasound or anything like that. This time around, i had an ultrasound WEEKLY since March to ensure baby was properly thriving in the womb and that there was no birth defects. I knew baby was going to be fine, but i had this weird feeling things would be chaotic in the delivery room. I am glad everything turned out ok and baby is healthy.
She is now 2 weeks old. I am feeling extremely tired this time around. Dr said that would probably linger until i get my iron built back up. I am enjoying every second of having Meadow here. I want nothing more than to quit my job and just stay home and hold her for the next couple years! Ha ha!
