Johnathan-Davin`s birthstory
WARNING: Do Not Read If You Are Not Ready To Hear How Painful Labor Can Be!!! Johnathan`s labor was pure HELL! It was sooooo bad!!! I can`t hardly describe the pain, it was very INTENSE!
Where to start??? I had been having contractions on and off for a little over a week before I went into full labor. I kinda knew it would happen soon. I was praying it didn`t happen before my induction. The reason I didn`t want to go before my induction was because if I did I wouldn`t be able to have an epidural. I wasn`t going to have my baby without it! I had never had a baby without one. I did try, with my 2nd child (Matthew) not to have one, but I dilated to four and I said that was it, give me the epidural. His labor went for 23hrs. Ugh!
On Saturday, the 2nd, I woke up and was having regular contractions about 1-2 an hour. Keep in mind I`m not supposed to be induced until Wednesday, the 6th. That lasted for about 6 hours. Then I was having 3-4 an hour for a couple of hours then BAM! They were every 5minutes and they were getting very uncomfortable! I called Andy home from work and told him I wanted to go in. We got to the hospital about 8pm. They brought me back to the labor and delivery triage area. They bring you there to make sure your in labor before you go to a room. They checked me and said I was only 3cm. They hooked me up to the monitors and watched me for an hour. They said the deciding factor if I was in true labor or not is if my cervix changed. Well, I continued to have contractions although they were irregular by now. They continued to become stronger and lasting longer. They checked me at 9pm and they said no change, I was still at 3cm. They said they were probably going to send me home.
Well, Andy shot up in his chair and said if I take her home how am I going to get her back here. She can`t even walk (because of my back injury) and now she is in pain from labor. It took me about 15 minutes to get to the car to get to the hospital. The nurses talked to the doctor and they decided to monitor me for another hour. They came back in at 10pm, still no cervical change even though I continued to have contractions. The nurse could see that I was getting to be more and more miserable. They decided to admit me and see where things went.
About 11pm after I was admitted, my contractions were every 2 minutes and lasting for a minute! They were so INTENSE and INCREDIBLY PAINFUL!!! I was freaking out! I told Andy there was no way I was going to be able to do this for hours on end! I was screaming and deep groaning with each and every contraction! I was crying so hard I started to hyperventilate! They checked me again and I was still only 3cm. Its 12am I`ve been in full labor for 4 hours and no cervical change at all! My pain tolerance at this time is minus zero! They decided to give me morphine to help cope with the contractions. I could still feel them, but it was just enough to take the edge off and I was able to rest a little bit.
The morphine only lasted an 1hr and a half. I`m told at this time I cannot get anymore morphine. They are trying to get me through the pain until 8am when it would be safe for me to have an epidural. I can`t have the epidural until 8am because that was my last dose of Lovenox the day before. Lovenox is the blood thinner I`m on to prevent blood clots. If I have an epidural before the Lovenox is out of my system there is a chance of bleeding in the spinal column where the epidural goes in and then can cause me to become paralyzed. The next thing the nurses suggest is Nubain. They said they could give me a large dose to help take the edge off and help me sleep till morning. I`m all for that. I heard of Nubain, but had never had used it for pain. I got the Nubain about 1am and that`s when all hell broke loose! The Nubain didn`t even touch the pain!! It was as if they never gave me anything!! The contractions are coming fast and furious!! And I`m about to seriously DIE from the pain!!! I had been screaming with each contraction since the morphine wore off! I thought I had a high tolerance for pain, but I found out that I don`t! I kept telling Andy and the Nurses to please just knock me out!! All during this time they were checking me and I still hadn`t moved from the 3cm I was when I got there at 8pm. Its now 2am and the decision was finally made to go ahead and give me the epidural! I had never been so happy when they said that! I started crying with relief!!
The anesthesiologist came in and I said to him `Oh, my new best friend is here!!` After I was able to get through that I was feeling much better once the epidural kicked in. I literally counted how many contractions I would have before the epidural would kick in. I think I had 4 or 5 more intense contractions and I was finally only feeling the pressure and no pain. My body was so tired I was starting to fall asleep. They came in at about 3:30am to check me and I had finally started to dilate. I was about 4cm.
I slept on and off for the next 3 1/2 hours. The nurses came in about 7am checked me and I was 7cm. I told the nurses my epidural is wearing off and they said it would be fine for the delivery. The Dr came in and broke my water, which was clear. Just by breaking my water I went to 8cm. I was also minus 2 station. I started feeling each contraction as well. With each one the pain was returning. I was just praying I had the will to finish with the delivery. About 15 - 20 minutes later Babys head was zero station and I was completely dilated. I gave some pushes and they decided to wait for contractions to push babys head down more. We waited about an hour for baby`s head to come down. At this point I can feel everything! The baby`s head moving down the birth canal. I can feel this INTENSE burning and then this INCREDIBLE need to push! I started pushing at 20 after 8am. Johnathan was born at 8:39am.
When it was time to push Johnathan out my epidural had completely worn off! At first I was super pissed about it! But then after he was born I realized that I had never felt any of my other babies coming out. I had only felt the pressure of them being born. But with Johnathan I felt absolutely everything and I`m grateful I did have the opportunity to have that experience!
