After days of labor, my water broke on my way into the doctors to get checked. We went right to the hospital and as soon as we got a room (they were filled to the max) I had my epidural. Once that was administered, my blood pressure dropped, along with Cody's heart rate. I was closely monitored for about 10 minutes when it was decided that I needed an emergency c-section. Everything happened so fast. The anesthesiologist was missing and ended up showing up to give me more meds to be completely numb for the surgery a bit late, and I ended up feeling her start to cut me open. I kept telling the nurse that was holding the oxygen mask to my face that I was feeling what they were doing to me, and she said that they usually wait about 5 minutes after the injection is administered to start the surgery so that nothing is felt, but they couldn't wait that long. She said if I could not handle the pain, that they would have to knock me completely out and that my husband couldn't be in the room with me. I told them not to knock me out and to get my husband in the room to be with me, so they finally let him in the room and about 30 seconds after he sat down, Cody was born and screaming his lungs out! I told my husband to go and be with Cody, that I would be fine. They whisked him by my head and said look at your son, but it happened so quickly and I was shaking so much that I really didn't remember it. I was sent to recovery after I was stapled up, and was in there for two hours because they had to get some blood from me to check on an issue with my liver. They kept blowing my veins and couldn't get a draw, then finally they did. Once my results came back that I was fine, I was wheeled to my room past a bunch of family. I remember asking my mom what my son looked like and she just said he was perfect. After I got into my room, they brought me my son and I got to hold him for the first time. Chris had already given him a bath, but didn't hold him because he wanted me to be the first to hold him. When I saw him I just cried. He was so beautiful and so worth all the complications! We are blessed to have such a wonderful baby boy!
