Thomas Sex: boy Born: 05 October, 2001 Age: 10 years & 135 days Birthday in: 230 days Starsign: Libra Development: See the 32 months page. Biggest achievement so far: - |
So Thomas was 4 days past due date and a 24 hour labour that ended up in theatre with a trial of forceps. I couldn't push him out - 5 hours in 2nd stage. When I realised they were seriously going to do a c-section I got my act together and pushed hard enough that, with the dtr, we were able to push him out. He was BEAUTIFUL. His eyes were open and alert and you knew he knew us, recognised our voices, and was taking the world in. I can still remember his entry into this world - he was a spectacular soul even then.

Toby Sex: boy Born: 12 January, 2004 Age: 8 years & 36 days Birthday in: 329 days Starsign: Capricorn Development: See the 32 months page. Biggest achievement so far: - |
So Toby was born on his due date and about 5 and a half hours after my waters broke. He was a drug free no intervention birth in the birthing pool at hospital. I wouldn't say that experience was any easier than Thomas', however. Toby looked like a bird that had fallen out of its nest and into my lap. He couldn't even open his eyes for more than a split second and the eyes were "unformed" looking grey splotches. I was totally unprepared for how he might look - after the experience of Thomas (see above).
It took ages (about a year) to fully comprehend that Toby was mine - as opposed to my husbands' son that I was looking after (!). Don't get me wrong - I have always totally adored him - but is just that the recognition wasn't as immediate as with Thomas. This has not in any way affected our relationship as we have a massive friendship and adore each other - he is my "easy" child and he is totally awesome (whereas Thomas is a challenge with his ADHD!). But Toby is so different to me, so much like his father, and already preferring the male things with his father. Their relationship is natural and easy and I'm the mum that sometimes just doesn't get it! In contrast it is just as well that Thomas and I immediately had a soul connection as I've needed to draw on super-natural reserves to get through this far with him.
So - every birth is different, every child is different, and your connection and relationship with each child may be different. There is nothing wrong with this - it is to be expected. Both my boys know I totally love them - equally - and even though both Ben and I relate in very different ways with each child - what do you expect, they are after all different human beings!

Aria-Lee-Hobbs-Allen`s birthstory
Contractions started after an accupuncture session and were consistently 15 mins then 10 then 5 then 3 apart over about 7 hours.
Then I went to hospital and did a couple of unbearable hours in the pool trying to get further along before getting the epidural (I was only 3 cm upon arrival in hospital).
The epidural was hard to get in (took 3 attempts over a half hour) and was probably the most challenging experience I`ve had. Once it worked - GREAT (but still `only` 5 cm even after all that hard work!).
From that point on it was a very calm birth - although it did take a long time.
Once I realised I could push I had a freak out moment and realised I wasn`t ready to have her. So we just waited a half hour while I got my head together. Then her delivery was peaceful and calm and we had a very contented baby almost immediately (not to last, however - lol!).
