My birth story is pretty funny in my and my husbands opinion. I went to my doctors office to check my blood pressure on Thursday, Oct 15th 2009 at 1:30pm. My due date was Oct 31st 2009 (Halloween), but I didnt make it that far. My blood pressure had been a little elevated since that Tuesday, so when I returned to my doc office and it was still elevated, and i was 5cm..he said "ok, i hope u guys drove here becuz im sendin u straight to the hospital...today will most likely be the day. i'll be there after the office closes (at 7), but dont worry, this is ur first child, it will be a while before you have him". as we left the office he said "happy birthday".
my husband and i went to the hospital after stoppin for food for my husband and coming home to get the baby bags and for me to wrap up my hair.
then we arrived at the hospital at around 3:30. i was examined by the PA and everyone kept askin if i wanted an epidural. i said i did, but not yet becuz i was handling the pain fine. i was doin rather well, i walked to the labor and delivery room all wrapped up in blankets and my hospital robe. my husband carried all of the bags and followed.
once in there...i got the epidural question a few more times and i denied it a few more times...still feeling very little pain. i was joking around wit my husband btwn each contraction, even during a couple. i was watching all the machines around me...making phone calls to update our families on what was going on (since no one expected that this would be the day). then the doc that was handling my docs patients during his office hours came in and said "ur not gonna have a baby wit the contractions ur having...theres too much smiling and comfort on ur face"...she said my doc wanted her to break my water and then give me some pitocin to strengthen my contractions.
still i smiled and said "ok, no problem". my water was broken at 4:30pm, only 3 hours after my regular office visit to check my pressure... the pitocin was administered and moments later..................................AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!
i was grabbing my husbands hand, grabbing the sides of the bed, screaming for God to help me. it was so painful. i needed that epidural baaaaaaad. i was examined again and the doc on duty said i was 8cm...but still i could get the epidural...this was my first baby...he wouldnt be coming anytime soon.
so the anesthesiologist comes in and has the worse attitude ever. these contractions are crazy and shes standing there like "listen what do u want me to do...u need to breathe thru them or i cant help u". the nurse wasnt much better, but i pulled thru it and got my epidural, at the same time scared to stay sitting upright becuz i literally felt like i was sitting on my babys head and i also had the strongest urges to push...like right right at that moment.
so i laid back down...epidural in place...and im still feelin everything. im screamin to my husband how badly it hurts and telln him i neeeeeed to push noooooow!!!! so he calls for the doc and she comes to check me again. "oh, ur about to have a baby".
she puts my legs up in the stir up thingys and gets her gloves on as the RN sets up all the supplies behind her. she tells me to start pushing. my husband looks over to watch as he strokes my hand and my forehead. still...im feeling everything. my husband is smiling from ear to ear sayin "baby, i c him, he has soooo much hair".
6 strong pushes later...at 6:13pm...our baby boy was born. not even 2hours after my water was broken.
and as im getting stitched up (yes i did have to get a lil cut)...the epidural starts to kick in. GREAT!!!! lol.
