Kylinn-Amaris`s birthstory

So after weeks and weeks of strong Braxton-Hicks contractions, I was getting used to the pain, but had felt like my little girl had dropped and was trying to literally scratch and dig her way out of me! On Tuesday, February 24th, I had been feeling kinda funny all day. I was just really tired and my tummy felt upset, like I ate something bad, but I didn`t have to go to the bathroom. I ate a big dinner and still felt kinda sick, but ignored it and was going to bed. Chris was working out of town and had planned on being back the following night to attend the hospital tour with me. So I was laying in bed and he called me to say goodnight. We were both exhausted and he was having a hard time staying awake on the phone. As we were saying goodnight at 10:15, I started to have some pain and a contraction, and he could hear in my voice that I was in pain, but we were so used to it at that point that neither of us thought anything of it, and hung up. Literally 2 seconds after I hung up the phone, I felt a strange very faint pop and thought to myself that it was unlike anything I had felt before, and felt like I had to use the bathroom. I thought maybe my dinner wasn`t agreeing with me. I went into the bathroom and sat on the toilet and noticed that my unders were really wet, and all of a sudden there was a gush of fluid into the toilet. It just kept coming. I wiped and noticed it was a little pink and knew without a doubt that my water broke. I ran back into the bedroom and immediately called Chris back. It had only been 1 minute since we had hung up. I told him my water broke and he said, `Are you serious?` I told him I was sure that is what it was and he said he was packing his bag and was on his way back. I told him I would call my mom because I was home alone and had no way to get to the hospital. Chris was going to meet us there. When I called my mom, she asked, `are you sure you didn`t just wet the bed?` I told her I wasn`t in bed, and I was standing in my bathroom again, dripping all over the floor! It felt disgusting! I was only wearing socks and unders at this point so I took my socks off and turned on the shower. I wasn`t going to try to take off my unders because it just felt so gross! So I got in the shower and took them off in there. While I was in there, I explained the situation to my brother and best friend over the phone, and my brother and sister-in-law said they were coming to pick me up. My best friend was supposed to come, too, but when she left her apartment, she realized she had a flat tire on her car and couldn`t make it! I still wasn`t having very bad contractions when my brother got to my house and was taking my time to make sure I had everything and that my dog had enough food outside. Luckily my bag was mostly packed already. There were a few last things I needed, and my sister-in-law told me to quit lolly-gaggin` and that if I didn`t hurry up and get out to the car, she was going to drag me out of the house. But I still felt fine. We were finally on our way, and I didn`t start to have any discomfort until we were almost to the hospital. I even took the stairs up to the second floor. Chris got to the hospital at the same time we did (after driving 95 mph to get there) and we checked in at midnight. Chris went back with me to the triage room but the contractions were starting to get really painful at 12:30 and were starting to make me feel sick, and when I felt like I was going to puke, I sent him out (he doesn`t handle it well, but was willing to hold the bucket for me) and I made him send in my sister-in-law. My mom was there at this point, but she was more nervous than either Chris or I was. Anyway, they checked me at 1:00 am and said I was already at 5 cm! I was shocked! I was expecting to be at 2...maybe 3 if I was lucky. Well the contractions kept getting more and more uncomfortable, and a labor/delivery room finally opened up, so they moved me, but had to wait for the anesthesiologist because there was an emergency with another baby (that ended up dying, and while I am in labor, my family was telling me about this baby, whose family was also in the waiting room...not what you want to hear when you are in labor, but the baby had anencephaly, and the family knew all along that she wouldn`t make it...of course 2 days after my baby was born, my mom gave me more details on that baby, and I just couldn`t handle hearing it, so I made her stop talking...I mean seriously...not a story I wanted to hear). Anyway, I finally got my epidural at 2:30 and it was a piece of cake. A little uncomfortable, but no big deal at all. My left side never went numb, so I still felt the contractions really bad, but just in one spot, so it was bearable. They came in at 5:00 am and checked me, and said I was at 6-7cm and adjusted my epidural so that my left side would go numb, too, and it finally worked, but since my contractions had slowed down, they gave me pitocin. After that, I only felt pressure and kept feeling like I had to poop, but it was just the pressure from the contractions and the baby. A new nurse came in at 6:30 and I asked her to check me because I felt like I had made a lot of progress but she said that since my water was broken they didn`t want to check me too often unless I was feeling a lot more pressure. I told her I was, so she said she would be back at 7 to check me. At 7, she came back and when she checked me, she said I was fully dialated, and had me do a practice push. She said she would give the baby 30 minutes to drop a little more, and when she came back at 7:30, we started pushing for real. It really wasn`t that bad. All I wanted was ice chips in between pushes. Chris was in there with me, and so was my sister-in-law, but my mom was too freaked out and stayed in the waiting room. I told Chris that if it got too much for him, he could leave too, and I wouldn`t have been mad, but I think that is something I would have regretted offering if he had followed through with it! He stuck around, of course. So in between contractions, I was talking and laughing with Chris and Shannon and as long as I had ice chips, I was pretty content. I was getting annoyed with having to push, though. It seemed like a hassle to lift my legs and do the work after a while. Anyway, as the time went on, it became more and more painful, but still bearable. The epidural only helped my abdomen. I felt everything in the lower section...I was at the last few pushes and ended up yelling a little with the effort and pain, and ended up getting a 2nd degree tear. It hurt really bad, but there was nothing I could do at that point. I was almost done, and her head was almost out, and I pushed really hard, and tore even more. I started to feel sick and like I was going to faint, so I took about a 30 second break to catch my breath and my sister-in-law was sitting there wondering how I could just sit there with the baby`s head where it was...I finally focused and gave one last really strong push and her head was out! The cord was around her neck and she came out with her head looking sideways, but after her head was out, the rest of her slipped right out. And even though Chris swore he wouldn`t watch at all, he ended up watching the whole thing. My mom walked in the room just as she was coming out. Shannon and I were crying and I looked at Chris and he was looking at me with tears in his eyes. The baby immediately started crying. She was born at 8:55 and the funny thing was that me, Chris, and my mom all guessed she would weigh 5 lbs. 2 oz. I hadn`t even known what their guesses were when I made my guess and all 3 of us were right! They put her on my chest for a few minutes, then immediately took her to the nursery because she was a month early, so Chris went with her. He didn`t get to hold her until later that night! Anyway, she is absolutely beautiful and I am so happy she is here!
