Lachlan-Glenn-Matthews`s birthstory

I started to have regular contractions at about 11pm on the night of my due date that were beginning to get really intense. I went to the toilet at 12 and noticed a show, and began to time them. They were 5mins apart and lasted for 45seconds. By about 1am they were 3 mins apart and were making me focus, so I called the hospital who said that I had a while to go and that I should stay at home for as long as possible. But by 3am I thought that if I didn't leave then, I wouldn't get there because the intensity of the contractions was getting unbearable. I woke up my best friend Jodi, who had travelled 4 hours that day to be there for the birth. My partner Steve, a little stunned, got everything together and off we went. By the time I got to the hospital my contractions were 2 mins apart and I was 5 cm dilated, 100% effaced. I labored on my knees with my head on the bed between contractions until my water broke at 8am...... it was green, my little boy had been distressed at some point. The midwife checked the position of his head and body by U/S and noticed that his head was on an angle, stopping him from moving further down the birth canal...... and told me of the possibility of a c-section. I really didn't want that, so I began rocking my hips to reposition his head. With the support of my friend and partner his head corrected and I was 10cm dilated at 9.45am and was ready to push. It only took 6 pushes to get him through (with the help of gravity being on my knees), both shoulders coming out at the same time resulted in a 3rd degree tear for me, but he and his little lungs were great and had no damage from the meconium. He was born on Monday the 3rd of November at 10.10 am, and every little finger and toe is perfect. Although daddy missed cutting the cord (because off the urgent need to clear babies lungs), he is so proud and such a wonderful daddy. I was stitched up and stayed the night in hospital, and left the next day to come home with the new love of my life!
