Liam-McNamara`s birthstory
At 3 days overdue i had reflexology done on my feet which is supposed to help bring on labour. It did! That night i started getting back pain and tightenings, by tuesday they were very early labour contractions. I used my birthing ball and tens machine as the pains got worse and worse. I went to the hospital after having warm baths, breathing, and could no longer sit at home. They checked me and i was only 2cm dilated so she did a sweep to help things move along. I went back home, at 2am and was told to come back when i felt i had progressed further. By about 6am i was in a lot of pain so went back, was checked and was 4cm so i was taken to the birth unit were i had 2 more stretch and sweeps! Things really started moving along. I had my fiance, sister and mum with me the whole time and they are the reason i got through child birth. When i was 5/6cm dilated, i opted to use the birthing pool and it was a lovely calming effect on me. I was really needing the gas and air by now! My waters still hadnt broke by 8cm dilated and i was becoming very distressed, it felt like my body was giving up, it was such hard work so they offered to break them. This really brought on strong contractions. I continued to use the pool, and with the support of family and the fantastic midwfies, i gave birth to Liam in the pool, where daddy got to cut the chord, and lift him out the water. I was so proud of myself for just using gas and air- the pusing was so intense, i really dont know how i survived! I delivered the placenta naturally about 20 mins after birth. Liam arrived at 9:10pm on 21st July 2010 weighing a healthy 7lb 15oz! He is so precious, we are totally in love, im just glad its over and we have our baby son :) thank you for all uyour support over the last 9 months, i`ll see u all the baby forum! Congrats to all u new mummys and good luck to those waiting. Its true what they say, the pain is forgotten as soon as your child is laying on you x
