Evangeline-Mary`s birthstory

So to begin, I was 9 days over-due when this all started. Wed afternoon/evening I was having contractions but they weren`t getting any closer than seven minutes and never got more intense, so at 9 pm I gave up and went to bed. At 9:45, after maybe 30 min of sleep, I woke to my water breaking, like out of a tv sitcom breaking! I jumped out of bed to save my matress yelled for hubby, who almost passed out he jumped out of bed so quick, in those few seconds I had soaked the rug by my bed, then I ran leaving a trail behind me thru the house, snagged my cell phone on the way, jumped into my bath tub and called L&D. When they asked if I was SURE my water had broke, I looked down at the fluid still streaming down my legs into the tub and had to try really hard not to get sarcastic with them, lol. Well, we made our mandatory notification calls to work and friends and family, went on in, and the fun really started. My contractions weren`t that strong, and were still 7 min apart, was dialated 1 cm, and as I was GBS + with broken water they started my antibiotics and explained that they wanted to use pitocin to speed things up as her risk of infection was higher since my water broke. This sounded perfectly reasonable, so we agreed. Contractions started hitting hard after an hour or so, and lucky me, it was back labor all the way! Hubby was amzing, rubbing my back thru every contraction, Because they had to use a internal monitor for both baby and my contractions, I couldn`t walk or move at all to ease the pain, it was awful and I kept alternating my mantra from `ï can do this` to crying `ï can`t do this!` 14 hours later my doctor came in and said he was going to check my progress again, but even if I wasn`t to 4 yet he would give me the epidural. I wanted a natural birth, and thru the pain of the current contraction I yelled `NO EPIDURAL!` The doctor left after checking me, I was at 4 cm, and my husband looked at me, he was almost crying, and asked, `Are you sure?` then my friend Michelle, who is a mom of four and was my voice of wisdom and support asked `Do you think you will be able to push when it comes time?` At that point I had only gotten those 30 min of sleep in 31 hours, and was exhausted. So I told them to get the doctor. The anestisiologist was amazing, he was there in under a min, and I felt nothing, not a prick. not that a needle in the spine phased me at that point! He had it in and working faster than I thought possible, maybe because I had back labor is why it kicked in so quick, but from there on out I was gone. Passed out cold for the next 4-5 hours of labor! When I woke up I was still feeling great, I felt the contractions, fel tthe pressure, but no pain at all. I wished I hadn`t been so stuborn, I could have saved myself alot of agony, but so-on-and-so-forth, at 9 pm Thurs night the night shift doctor came in and checked me, I wasa still at 4 cm, and baby had still not dropped. She said over 24 hours of labor, you are not progressing, and your temperature has spiked to 102, now baby`s heart rate is dropping and she is not moving.... we want to do a c-section. She added that we could wait a few hours, but that the longer we waited the more exhausted my daughter would be, and with my temp they feared I was developing an infection. We asked all medical ppl to leave the room, and hubby, Michelle, and I discussed it, not much of a discussion really, as babies health was of the utmost importance, so I told my amazing husband it was up to him, as a cesarean meant that he would be doing the majority of, well, everything for a while after the birth. He said lets do it now. So off we went to surgery! I had the same anestisiologist for earlier, and he was awsome. Topped off my epidural, and stood by my head giving me a play-by-play of the surgery, hubby didn`t want to watch, and was under strict orders to stay with the baby after she was born. I even told the guy my biggest fear was that the ultrasound tech had been wrong and she wasn`t going to be a little girl! I felt no pain thru the surgery, some pressure when they were deep in my belly, but nothing like what I had feared, it went really well, and when they pulled her out the anes.. told me that it was little girl even before the doctors pulling her out called it. Hubby went with her immediatly, as she wsn`t crying so I didn`t get to see her right away, she cried as soon as they stimulated her, and he got to cut the cord, I couldn`t see any of this tho, so it was the anes.. who kept me sane by keeping me informed and letting me know that she was doing fine. About fiv emin later hubby brought her back to me, and she was so beautiful, my heart broke because I couldn`t hold or touch her yet, then they left with her while the other doctors finished putting me back together. At that point I got the shakes, which apparently are normal, every part of me that I could feel- from the breasts up pretty much, was convulsing, I was freezing cold and my jaw was clacking and everytrhing was just shivering violently. When I went back up to my postpard room, and Hubby brought Evangeline in I couldn`t even hold her, hubby held her to me, and she got to nurse for the first time. After about an hour I was feeling better, still numb from the breast down, but not shaking, yay! Hubby went home to sleep, as there was no where for him there, and we settled in for the weekend. A C-section recovery is no joke, I feel like a cripple, and walk like an old lady, but it was worth it for my little girl. Because I was up and moving so soon (took my first walk 10 hours after the surgery) and doing well, they agreed to release us early, after only 42 hours. So Came home Saturday afternoon. Our first night home was difficult as I can barely get up by myself, so feedings and changings were very hard. But we are finding a balance, and are so happy to have our little girl home with us and healthy and beautiful as can be, Lol, she looks so much like her daddy, already has his full pouty lips and is working them like a pro!
