Baby-Peanut`s birthstory
Friday night I went for a walk on the beach with my girlfriends. I had hoped that walking on sandy beach would help me go into labor on my own. Then we stopped by for late dinner and a glass of juice, and on my way home I started feeling first strong contractions.
I tried to go to sleep but I was up at 2 am with the pain I had never felt in my life. I started timing contractions and they were about 6-7 minutes apart. By 6 am I was in so much pain, I couldn`t take in any longer. We got admitted to hospital a little after 7 am on Saturday - I was 3-4 cm and 90% effaced. Of course, nobody could find my record (doctor office forgot to send them over, awesome huh), I didn`t exist in their system and while rolling over in pain I had to go through 5000 questions they made me answer before I was able to get any pain meds. Sigh. Well, by 9 o`clock they managed to have my doctor come in and get the paperwork straighten out, and around 10 I got an epidural. What a relief! As soon as it started, my contractions pretty much disappeared, and since I had gotten 1 hour of sleep in past 24 hour, I was able to sleep and rest while dilating. By 3 pm I was 6cm, and they broke my waters. I was told that the baby had passed meconium but it was moderate. By 5 I started feeling different kinds of contractions, and they gradually got stronger and closer together. These were the transition type contractions that epidural will not help disappear. Plus it shouldn`t - you need to be able to feel them in order to know when to push. It feels like you need to have a BM really bad. By 7 pm they got REALLY intense, and all of the sudden the MF and my nurse walked into the room saying it`s time. I was fully dilated and they saw on their screen that baby is ready to come. Everything went so fast and I pushed so hard to get rid of that pain that by the time my doctor came in, baby`s head was right there. 3-4 more contractions and the baby was out! Everybody was amazed how quickly I pushed him out being a first time mother - labor was long but delivery took us 25 minutes. Peanut was born at 7.25 PM on Saturday, he couldn`t catch his first breath right away but the nurse helped him and after a minute he started screeming. He was smaller then we though, and kind of blue pale, and we were told that it was probably because the umbilical cord was rather thin. But he quickly improve his vitals and was ready to meet mom and dad. We are over the hills in love with our son, and my husband was amazing coach and partner. He was holding one of my legs while I was pushing, keeping me relaxed, reminding me how close we were, etc. Couldn`t do it without him. The hospital staff were awesome too - very attentive and in tune with our needs. I quickly forgot about the paperwork thing from that morning. It`s true what they say - it`s ALL worth it - 9 months of pregnancy, and all the aches, pains, and trauma of delivery - this little man is EVERYTHING to us now. Thank you ladies for letting me share and for being there for me during past nine months. Labor dust to all!
