So we went in on Sunday January 4th at noon to be induced! We got there around 12:20 actually, got the ball rolling right at 12:45. I was hooked up to the IV and then I got a vaginal insert of citatec (sp?) Sat and waited, 4 hours later got the 2nd insert, then 4 hours later got the third. When we started out I was only 1 cent. dilated. By the last insert I was maybe a 2! This was not looking good! The patocin was started around 2:00am. I turned down the epidural for a few hours and then let them give it to me around 4:00am. SO I've been in labor so far for 8 hours and 15 minutes! Still not much progress. My Dr. shows up around 8:00 and says I'm still dilated to 2 and she breaks my waters. Then she's off. Some time during the day they stopped the patocin because they wanted to monitor something else (my mind is still groggy!) I was also on the IV for the treatment of Strep B. I threw up like 6 times throughout the day and night too. So they put me on something for the nausea. I had the cathera in which was great not having to get up to pee and not even knowing I was peeing!! I also had my contractions being monitored through my vagina on some sort of IV thing which monitored the intensity. At one point my hand with the IV was totally infiltrated and my fingers and arms were all swollen to the max and cold. So they had to move the IV to the other arm and did so after about 4 more sticks.. (I hate needles) This meant I had wires going across me for the IV and the blood pressure going across to the other arm, the cathera, numb legs and more wires, I felt like I couldn't move. Then at some point the Epidural began to wear off and my back was KILLING ME! All of a sudden I could feel the contractions coming on like every minute and they were killers! There was some sort of emergency next door to me so I was trying not to cry for another dose....well I got one eventually and it didn't work....so the Dr. did another and that worked. For about an hour and a half. My epidurals kept wearing off and I was in a PANIC! Not to mention I was not progressing much at all. I was looking like a total C-section and I was freaked out! Dr. comes in around 7 and I'm dilated to about 4 or 5. Nothing was ever certain between the nurses and the Dr. She leaves and pretty much decides no baby tonight...I'm at this point thinking he would never come and they would send me home. Mind you my waters had been broken almost 12 hours ago!! I didn't really leak like everyone has said. My pad I was laying on never needed to be changed. I was taking these patocin driven contractions without any meds for a very long time and I was dying. Literally about to just give up. THANK GOD FOR LAMAZE! The breathing was the only thing to get me through. My mouth was dry, I couldn't have ice because they thought I was going to end up in surgery. Well long story even longer, I felt the urge to push, told them to call my Dr. to get here that he was either coming out or she was going to have to take him out. I had been in labor over 24 hours and I was done physically and emotionally! Dr. shows up and I'm dilated to 9. Husband and I pray that we can have him vaginally. My Dr. comes in and starts massaging my cervix and everything and says we can do this. She was still unsure about his size and what not and told me the decision to try and go natural was all mine. We trusted in the Lord because that's all you can do at this point. She ordered me one more shot of ther epidural and we were off! We pushed for 45 minutes and out pops my BRADY! He has a head full a dirty blonde hair and these big blue eyes. 32 hours of labor. And I get my baby at 12:03 so since he was born on the 6th we had to stay an extra night! He wasn't even as big as they all kept trying to say he was. He was perfect! The worst part about the labor was not having the meds the entire time, those contractions hurt so much. When it was push time, I was feeling great, I didn't even break a sweat! Michael was a great coach and it was so awesome! My Dr. was in my room from the 1st to the last push which was great too. I did have to have an epsiotomy but it's been fine and I have not felt it at all yet! I knew when she was going for it though because I saw her turn for the scissors. Then I had to imagine myself going down summitt plummitt in walt disney world's blizzard beach. We had really good nurses throughout the hole thing too. Brady is doing great, he got a 9 on his apgar. He didn't cry right away (but has made up for it) He even nursed when he came out for 45 minutes! That was so precious! He didn't have one scratch on him and his skin has not bagun to crack or peel yet. He is just perfect!! Oh and the best part of all I am almost forgetting. I did have a BM....but it was nothing....totally natural. I did however pee all over my Dr., like splashed all over her from head to toe!! I felt horrible but she was like it's happened before but not in a long time...we all laughed and continued with the delivery! Something we'll laugh at for days to come!
