Easton`s birthstory

I was overdue so my doctor offered to induce me on Friday July 3rd. I was a little uncertain that I wanted to be induced but after he explained to me that my cervix was favorable and that my chances of a c/s were about the same if I wasn't being induced I decided to schedule. So we went in at 7:30am and they started me on Pitocin about 8:30am. About an hour later the doctor came in and broke my water and said, "Well your dialated to a 4 so if you want you can order your epidural." At this point I hadn't felt ANYTHING so I decided to wait. As odd as it may sound I wanted to feel the pain first. Around 11am I was feeling some REALLY strong contractions so I asked for the epidural. Well come to find out the anestioligist was in surgery. Within the next hour I was definately in the transitional stage of labor. I was doing everything I could to manage the pain... finally an hour and half later I received my epidural and man it was much more smooth after that. About half an hour later the nurse was getting everything set up. A little puzzled I asked, "Do I need to start pushing?" She said, "Well your close your at an 8 now." Within 45 minutes I was pushing. I have to say that with the epidural it wasn't too difficult for me. I actually expected labor to be much longer and harder than it was. Well after about an hour of pushing out came my beautiful baby boy and to my astonishment a very BIG baby boy! The doctor had predicted him to be in the high 6's low 7's... needless to say I tore, I actually had a 3rd degree tear and lost a lot of blood. After I delievered the nurse wheeled me into a different room. She said normally they try to get you to shower first, but said I didn't look to good and she wanted me to wait. I had no idea I had lost as much blood, I just remember feeling REALLY cold and REALLY hungry! About 6 hours after delivery I really needed to go pee, I contiplated on getting up and going on my own but I decided to page the nurse just incase. Well the nurse helped me into the bathroom and before leaving to fill up my perry bottle she said to me, "I'm just going to fill this up if you need anything just call out my name." Next thing I know I started to black out so I called out to her and all I remember is waking up to about 5 nurses above me yelling, "Keep your eyes open! Look at me! Keep your eyes open! Take deep breaths!" with one of those amonia package like things up to my nose. I can't say I have every passed out in my life, but this scared me pretty bad. The nurse said that the doctor suggested I get a blood transfusion, so I elected to get one and I am so glad that I did. I just remember feeling sooo weak after delivering little Easton that I couldn't even hold him. After the blood transfusion I was back to feeling normal again. I've been home for a week now and am sooo in love with my baby boy!
