Birth story
(10/30-11/1) Been having contractions on/off for a few days but nothing too big of a deal so I just waited for them to get stronger and more consistent. I got a call from the hospital on Saturday 11/1/2008 at 11pm telling me they had a spot for me to be induced so I could come down. My doctor told me she should would put me on a list but don’t hold my breath and if I didn’t have Rylee by Monday 11/3 they would have a for sure spot to induce me on Tuesday 11/4.
Well needless to say I was in shock and so scared. All of a sudden it became a reality that I was going to meet my daughter very soon. We got to the hospital a little after midnight on Sunday 11/2 and they hooked me all up to the monitors and said I was already in labor. The contractions were mild (to me) but consistent (about every 3minutes). I was so excited that I was already in labor but so scared too. They started me on Pitocin to increase my contractions and it definitely worked. The contractions became more and more consistent and more painful. I was doing great for about 3-4 hours but it really started wearing on me. I decided I would get an epidural so after 5 hours of being in hard core labor the anesthesiologist came in to see me.
The epidural didn’t hurt at all but I was in SOO much pain because of the contractions I don’t think much would have bothered me at this point. The worst part was being put way up in the air on a hospital bed and told to sit straight and still or else I wouldn’t be getting an epidural. Mind you I am having contractions VERY frequently at this point and sitting still seemed about impossible but somehow I did it. Yeah!
The epidural was the best thing EVER. I was still able to feel my legs and feet, in fact I could still feel Rylee move in my belly but somehow I couldn’t feel the intensity of the contractions (wonderful). So I was doing great at this point except for the uncontrollable shaking and shivering. The nurse said it was my body dealing with the progression of the labor and not to worry. So I didn’t I just laid there and shivered like crazy. All of a sudden 2 nurses come running into my room and said Rylee’s heart rate dropped. They checked me and said my bag of waters broke and she could be lying on her cord so they were moving me side to side try to get her heart rate back up. That was scary; they stopped the pitocin immediately and at one point gave me a shot to stop my labor all together so Rylee could rest.
Her heart rate came back up but it scared me to death. I just laid in one position that seemed to be best for her for hours because I didn’t want her heart rate to drop again. Every time they would check to see how dilated I was her heart rate would drop since I was on my back. I continued to progress despite being taken off the pitocin. Our baby girl was really low and ready to go about 10:30 am when the dr came in. I pushed for a total of 8 times and my beautiful Baby Girl arrived on 11-2-2008 at 11:09am. She received 9’s on her apgar score and as of yesterday at the dr (11-5) is about back to her birth weight. The doctor was amazed and said I must be blessed with some great milk. Talk about making me feel good. =)
Mommy, Daddy and Baby are doing great. We are truly blessed with our little angel.
