Caitlyn's Birth Story
This is the story of a beautiful baby girl who didn't want to come out
Our baby girl, Caitlyn, was due to arrive by July 1st; I planned on being at work until a day before. But my body decided that I had to go and rest for the remaining pregnancy (one week) instead. That last Friday June 20th, my co-workers threw me a surprise baby shower, oh those guys are great! Food, balloons, baby stuff, it was like Pepto-Bismol had been splattered everywhere. On Monday June 23rd, I went to work, but I felt so out of it. My manager sent me home, and I went to the doctor. She wanted me on bed rest, I had hypertension, and I was so swollen my feet look like marshmallows, no kidding! If they weren't flip flops, I didn't wear them! So I was put to bed rest, well not exactly, but I wasn't at work.
So the doctor says if she's not coming by the 3rd, they'd induce my labor. Well the end of June passes, and NO Caitlyn, the first, then the second, but the third, NO Caitlyn. So off to the doctors goes me, Darin, his brother and sister Steven and Stephanie, his mom Mary, my mom and my stepdad (who came from OHIO). After waiting forever, I get in there, and she looks to see if I am dilated, which I am, one centimeter (for a couple of days). She checks my swelling and says that she wants to induce my labor because of the hypertension. FINALLY! So I call my co-worker to let them know. So at 11am we head to labor and delivery. I get some final pictures of the belly, and I am hooked to an antibiotic because I had Group B Streptococcus. This is what it is
· Many people carry group B strep bacteria in their bodies without developing infection or illness. However, the bacteria can become deadly to people with weakened immune systems.
· Pregnant women can transmit group B strep to their newborns at birth. Group B strep is the most common cause of blood infections and meningitis in newborns.
During labor so she wouldn't get it passed to her. However, she still did get Jaundice. So, they also had me hooked up to Picocin to induce the labor. An annoying machine that administrates the drug to make me dilate. So, slowly contractions started. I decided to have an epidural after a long while, and in came the most RETARDED, IDIOT anesthesiologist. He stuck me at least 8 times in this hole in my back he made, and STILL did not get it. I am in pain from the contraction, and pain from him digging around my spine and trying NOT to move. Finally he gave up after on horrific poke that made my whole left side go into this PAINFUL tingling that made me sob. It hurt so bad. Then had the audacity to say it's because I was overweight. Thanks doc, a nine month pregnant women wants to hear that. (IDIOT) So in comes another doctor, and my mom had enough watching me go through at least 10 minuets of that and says Darin can stay. This doctor gets it right away. I love him, I want to marry him but not have his babies.
So then we get all settled and this numbness settles in below my hips. I am watching contractions and not feeling them, it was nice while it lasted. Then on the right side I start feeling the contractions, so I let them know after the magic button wasn't making it numb again. So they change the medicine. After about another 2 hours, the pain comes again, this time on the right. So I tell them again, and he said they would try another catheter in my back. Uh, NO! So I am feeling the contractions, and it sucks. At about 4 or so, the doctor comes back and checks me. I am TEN centimeters dilated. So, my mom, Darin and his mom are left in the room, it's time to PUSH. So I do for an hour and a half. Caitlyn was refusing to let her head come out. She was playing peek-a-boo already. Her head would come down, and then go back up, come down, go back up.
I am in pain, and Darin's mom and my mom are shoving my knees into my throat, when the doctor says that this could go on for a while, or we could do a C-Section. I didn't want to, but, I was already feeling everything and I was exhausted. So I says okay. At this point the contractions are like every other min, and it feels like hours before they get the room prepped. I am wisked away down the hall where it was like the ending to a softball game, everyone reaching out to touch me and wish me luck. I didn't care who was who or what was what, I was ready to get this pain over with. So in I go, and a spinal tap is done so I am awake during the procedure. they like get all the stuff ready to roll, and have the blue "tarp" hanging in front of me. I am a little panicky b/c Darin isn't in the room yet. So he comes in finally, just as they started to cut me. I am so numb, from my toes to my shoulders. I should note here, that I was getting this terrible pain in my shoulders and collar bones. I feel my body like being shook around and I know they are digging out the baby. Soon, I hear this sweet little ANGRY cry. My eyes tear up also. My doctor bends down and kisses my cheek and tells me I have a beautiful baby girl. They call Darin over and he leaves me. I still feel this pain and it's getting worse. Darin comes back with a bundle and I see black hair and long eyelashes. The first thought is, 'she's got Darin’s eyelashes!' They take her to the nursery, and the sew me up. Then I am taken to recovery where my journey of pain begins.
But that for another blog, my daughter is a beautiful, funny, entertaining three month old. I love her and miss her VERY much. My little monkey girl
