Jack-Dean-Hilton`s birthstory
I called the hospital on the eve of my induction 1 hr prior to coming in which was 6: 00 p.m. on Thursday Feb 25th as instructed. There was no bed ready and I sighed, I just knew it would start this way but they reassured me that I would be getting in there tonight and they will call me in the next cpl hours when a bed does open. I received that call at about 8:00 and they said to come in between 8:30 & 9:00. I was estatic walking around with this huge smile on my face. Dean and I left for the hospital and stopped to get magazines and snacks for him. We arrived at 8:45 and they brought us to our birthing suite. It was beautiful, perfect! Blush color paint, flat screen t.v. and some religious crosses and plaques on the wall which gave me some comfort and security. They checked my cervix which was still at 2 cm and I was now only 50 % effaced. They called y doc and asked if they can start the Pitocin ( medication to thin the cervix) which they insert way up to your cervix and leave in place for 12 hhours. Doc says yes and then they receive word of an emergency c-section with complications and put me on hold until 11:00 which I iunderstood and even said a small prayer for the women and her unbron baby. It was now 3 A.M. Dean was sleeping on the sleeper couch next to my bed and I was wide eyed watching a bunch of nothing on t.v. Contractions were often but very mild and I was just too excited to rest. Nurse came in and gave me an Ambian to sleep. It worked immediately however I only slept until 7:00 a.m. When I awoke, I realized we still had 4 hrs before they remove the Pitocin and just spent some time talking to Dean, making calls trying to pass the time. 11:00 rolled around and my doctor walked in. She checked my cervix and I was now ONLY 3 cm and te pitocin had softened my cervix but ti was thinning quickly. They immediately started me on the Pitocin drip ( given through IV gets the body to strat to contract) and within 15 minutes, the contractions hit me like a hurricane and they were 5 minutes apart lasting 60 secs sometimes! OMG! before I knew it, I was in tears. It was about 1:00 p.m. and I couldn`t take this! They were so close together and there was no time for relief inbetween. Nurse came in and gave me Demorral in my IV and the pain was better, took the edge off but still very intense. Withing a cpl of minutes of getting the Demorral, my doc came in checked me and broke my water. Within 15 minutes of my water breaking, I was in active labor. Pain so bad I cried through every contraction but wasn`t ready for the Epidual as I felt I just got the Demorral, I need to wait this out but nurse said, you shouldn`t torture yourself like this, get the epidural now! It was now about 3;00. Got the epidural which didn`t feel good getting but was a true God gift to women once he was done putting it in. I felt so high though and asked the nurse why. She said because now that I don`t feel the pain from the contractions, the Demorral is having this effect. I didn`t like feeling so dopey and couldn`t wait for it to wear off. They came in and checked me for the next hr and I went from 3 cm to 5-6 cm to 8-9 cm and then it was about 4:30 and I was 9 1/2 cm and they said it would be o.k. if I felt the need to push. I was still so numb but miraculously, I did feel the need to push. I could still feel my legs and now comes the work. I had to bear down and push from my lower helf through each contraction for 10 sec while holding my breath. This I found very difficult. I kept running out of breath and found my face turning bright red as I was pushing from my face and not my bottom like needed. I broke many blood vessels in my face laboring this way. I finally understood the importance of bearing down, pushing from my bottom half even if I had a BM ( which I did ) TMI sorry, but it was necessary for me to push right. I pushed for 1 hr and at about 5:25 I felt his head crowning. I needed to make that last push but my doc was just walking back in and the nurses gave me the o.k. to push him through which I did and out came his head. My doc rushes to put her scrubs on and gloves, etc and tells me not to push. I had t sit there literally 5 minutes with his head out, the burning and pain while she prepped! WTF! I was begging for her to get him out and to hurry! I made that last push when she was finally ready and out he came. OMG! He was beautiful! Peerfect! They put him right on my just as I had dreamed and played back so many times in m y head. They left him on me for almost 30 minutes while they stiched me up as I tore. It hurt getting the stiches, but at the time i was holding and kissing my baby, who cares! He was born 7 lbs. 7 oz. He does indeed have the Club Foot on his right foot but I thank God for modern medicine and the modern technology that showed me that he had this condition early on in the pregnancy as I already knew what to expect. It`s really not that bad anyway! :) He was takeen to nursey and brought back to me 2 hrs later where he stayed put until we were discharged Saturday at 8:00 p.m. I nursed which didn`t go well until the Lactate specialist came in and showed me some cool ways to hold him. He is now latching on and I believe he is getting what he needs until my milk supply comes in. I felt like I got hit by a train the 1st cpl of nights of being home. The pain from the epidural, the pain where they gave me the tetna shot, the pain from the IV, the pain from bearing down and pushing for 1 hr, the pain from the stiches, peeing in my pad unvoluntarily all day, the profuse bleeding and though it all, I sit here with my son lying next to me after his 1st bath, sleeping like a little nagel on earth, comforting my and making me realize the gifts I have been given from God bove and if for only a moment, I don`t feel any of that anymore. God bless all you ladies who are jumping on the delivery train and may you all have painless fast and smotth deliveries and even better recoveries!
