Garrett-Joseph-Cookman`s birthstory

Finally, some "down time" to get our Birth story up!! Friday, April 10th I officially lost my mucus plug that morning, I called into work only because I wasn't sure what to expect throughout the day. Nothing major happened that day, just some Braxton Hicks. We had a scheduled Dr. appointment that day at 3pm, so we went, she checked me and said that I was about 2 CM dilated and still about 50% effaced. We did a NS test just to make sure he was handling the BH ok, everything was good there, the they did confirm that I was having contractions and that I was probably in early labor. They decided to send us home to get things ready and prepare for what was to come. That night at about 8:30, things seemed to be getting a little more intense. I think I got scared and thought it was time to go to the hospital. We got to the hospital at about 10pm and went into triage, where they monitored me and later decided to admit us. At this time I was maybe a 2.5 to a 3 CM dilated and still 50% effaced, we walked the halls and got our room all situated. At this point we were still just waiting for the Dr. to come in and check things out. He finally got there, checked me, there still wasn't a whole lot of progress, but decided to go a head a break my water....which really got things started!! The pain was intense and I can't even begin to describe the feeling. At 5 CM I asked for the epidural....Thank God for drugs!!!! Although the first time didn't work, I nearly paniced...thinking that I was that 2% of the population that they don't work on!! Finally he got it to go and I was painfree!!! From there things slowed down a bit, pitocin was started and I slowly got to 7 CM, the Dr. was starting to get a little concerned only because I was having some pretty strong contractions, but not really going any where. That was the first time he mentioned the C-section....I was in tears, I never had a "birth plan" but knew that I wanted to try to do this vaginally. He agreed to give us a little more time to see if I would dilated any more....I did and got to about 9.5 CM, but still not 100% effaced. They decided to have me push to see if I could get him down further, so I pushed for about 30 mins, but it wasn't working. The Dr. came in and said that it was time to go a head witht he C-section. At that point, I guess I just knew that it wasn't going to happen vaginally and I would hate to do all this pushing only to end up with a C-section anyways because he wasn't going to fit. SO....they prepped me, wheeled me into this awful, cold, sterile room, drugged me up even more(I was shaking uncontrollably and was soooo tired only because of all the drugs), they pulled the drap up and Craig was there by myside. It was probably the most scarest 30 mins. of my life. Finally, I heard that cry, He was here. They took him across the room, Craig went with to get pictures and to check out our little man. Finally, Craig was able to bring him over, there he was, the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen!!!!!! We were both in tears!!! Our long awaited miracle was finally here!!!! He weighed 8.7 pds and was 20.5 inches long!!!! I still can't get over the fact that he fit in my belly?!?!?!
