Audrey-Jade-`s birthstory

So...baby Audrey is here! She is beautiful and its so weird/amazing staring at the little person who had been living inside me for the past 9 months. So basically I had done nothing to get this labor progressing. No teas or sex or anything. I woke up in the morning after not really sleeping much because of SEVERE heartburn and I guess I was snoring too. I had to go pee and when I wiped I saw BRIGHT RED BLOOD! And alot of it. I started to freak out a little and then I tried to see if I felt her moving. Nothing. I drank a Dr.Pepper to see if it would get her moving. Nothing again. I was freaking out! I mean, it was a lot of blood and my baby wasn`t moving. No contractions either. I told my husband and we rushed straight to L&D and the entire car ride I did not feel her. It was terrible. I didnt even put my shoes on I was in such a panic. The nurses hooked me up to the monitor and BAM! First contraction hit. Baby was fine and OH MY GOD! These hurt. Bad.
My blood pressure was high and they have to send labs to make sure you can get an epidural and they wanted to make sure that I was ok to get one. They checked my cervix and I was at a 5. One bad thing was it was shift change so I was feeling a little neglected. My first nurse was taking FOREVER to draw my labs. I was really getting mad. I was having severe contractions every two minutes and had gone from a 5 to a 7 before I got my epidural because the stupid nurse (YES STUPID) took forever to get the labs sent. So another nurse came in to start my IV and it was a nurse that I LOVED from my previous hospitalization. I told her she HAD to be my nurse and my husband went out and talked to the charge nurse to get it switched. I was so happy I got the nurse I wanted!!!!!
Right after that things started taking off and I got my epidural.
So the epidural was NOT how I thought it would be. I could still move my feet, feel my legs, but it took the edge off the contractions big time. I could move side to side in the bed. It was wonderful. I could still feel everything especially when it came to pushing. One side effect I had from the epidural was EXTREME shaking. I was shaking so bad. It was really starting to freak me out but they told me it was a normal side effect. Putting in the epidural didnt hurt either but by that point I was desperate for relief. I could actually feel it being threaded in which was weird. I also had really bad heartburn with each contraction. It was MISERABLE. I got some medication for it but it didnt really help. They broke my water and it wasnt as much as I thought it would be. Just a little gush. Then it only took a little bit to get dilated to a ten and begin pushing.
Baby was in a posterior position (they prefer anterior) so we were switching sides and doing all these things to try and get her to flip. At one point she did flip and I was excited. Well, lets just say she STAYED posterior. I was heavy pushing for 3!! hours and the doctor came in to tell me the options of forceps or vacuum extraction. She was far enough down in the birth canal to just need a little assistance and he basically said he would give me another 20 minutes and see what happens. I PUSHED WITH EVERYTHING I HAD! I was getting SOSOSOSO tired.
It was neat because the suite I was in had a huge mirror hanging off the ceiling so you could watch the whole process. At first I was like, no I dont want to see, but I am SO glad that I watched the whole thing. I only had my husband in the room too. Its very revealing all that pushing...and surprisingly I didnt poop! But...I farted a bunch which was really embarrasing anyways....but you cant help it! The pushing gets really hard.
So when the doctor came back the baby was right there but just couldnt fit. I agreed on the vacuum since the Dr was very experienced and sounded very confident in it. He said the only side effect would be a bruise on her head since she was far enough down. He actually had to suck for 8 minutes to get her out...It was worse than the movies...I could feel it, I was screaming and sweaty and I felt like I couldnt do it anymore. He had to give me an episiotomy because she was so large and he actually had to cut TWICE! Im actually glad he did because I probably would have wripped down to my bum.
And out she came! With a full head of hair and swollen poofy eyes and SCREAMING! It was the weirdest feeling when her head came out and her body followed soon after. And delivering the placenta was actually worse than delivering her. It hurt like hell! And let me tell you, the doctor had to stick his WHOLE HAND up my vagina twice to clear out blood clots. OH MY GOD! SO MUCH PAIN! He then had to stitch me up which sucked because the nurses were over there cleaning her off and I had to sit there and get stitched and not watch. Luckily we had the video camera and got the whole thing on tape. Not of the labor but once she popped out my husband got everything. Even the cutting of the cord. Her apgar was 8 then 9 (she had some blue hands and feet)
It was funny because we were all taking guesses on how big she would be. I guessed 6.11 and most people (even the doctor) said 7lbs. Well. They were wrong. She was HUGE! 8lbs 3oz and 2 and a half weeks early?!!! Wow! The doctor said that I was lucky she didnt go to my date because I most likely would have had to have a c section.
Poor baby had a huge hickey on her head, and Im not going to lie, she looked pretty scarey at first, her ear was all bent in half and her head was misshapen and her eyes were all puffy but I fell in love. She was perfect to me. The weird thing is I didnt cry. What is wrong with me? I watched Baby Story and cry but I dont when its me? Its all very shocking and surreal.
So in the end, my baby was Coombs positive which means her blood type and my blood type dont mix very well and she needs phototherapy for her bilirubin levels but she is healthy otherwise. The postpartum time was strenuous and she slept in the room with us every night. I just stare at her, even now.
I always thought my water would break or that the contractions would get bad...not bright red blood would start my labor. And I never thought pushing would be so hard. I have nerve damage on the top of my legs from pushing so hard and the anesthesiologist said it should get better in a week. I am so swollen it actually got worse after birth and my ankles have disappeared. Plus afterward you BLEED BLEED BLEED its pretty nasty. I didnt use half of the stuff in my suitcase I packed. I wore a gown the whole time and the one thing I do wish I had was a nursing bra. It all went actually really fast. The depressing part is looking pregnant afterwards.
Sorry this is so long and thanks if you actually read it! I wanted to keep it for my baby journal too!
