Noah-George`s birthstory
Well where do I start???
I went into hospital on Saturday 15th March after I noticed some leakage but was sent home following an examination and they said that it wasn`t my waters.
On the Sunday I still had leakage and had severe braxton hicks. As the pains got closer together I thought that again maybe this was the start of something and went into hospital - this was it!
I arrived at the hospital at about 8.30pm. By midnight there had not been much change at all, I had been coping well with the tens machine and refused gas and air when offered but then decided to have it by me `just in case` - I didn`t stop using it after that! I had an antibiotic drip in to prevent infection in case my waters had broken on the Saturday and I was hooked up to a monitor - that meant I was stuck in bed rather than being up and about which I was hoping for.
At 4:15 I was examined again and had only dilated a cm - I was horrified, so much pain and such little progress - I asked for pethidine and the midwife broke my waters. OMG what pain that caused!!! The contractions suddenly got alot stronger and more regular.
I really don`t remember anything from then until 7.30 (ish) when I agreed after much persuasion to have an epidural. I was 6-7cm at this point but not doing well with the pain. I was completely high on the gas and air so all I know now is what I have been told!!
After the epidural things got better but the contractions slowed down. The baby`s heartrate started to get really high (165 - 170) and so I had syntocin to speed things up, there was talk of c-section but the midwives wanted to do all they could before commiting to that!
I eventually had the baby after 2 and a half hours of pushing at 17:54pm. At the end I was threatened with a forceps delivery which gave me all the motivation I needed to get the baby out! After a few more big pushes he was out - and he was big!!! 10lb 1 and 56cm long! The midwife said `He`s a long one` my husband said `God he`s big` and I said ` Oh look - he`s here..... it is a boy isn`t it?` and then started crying.
Due to positions I was held in during the 3rd stage (my legs up and practically behind my head) I strained nerves and muscles in my pelvis and couldn`t move my legs at all the next day. I had to stay in hospital, it was horrible and I couldn`t look after Noah cause I couldn`t move. The day after that I could move them (side to side in bed) but couldn`t walk, I managed to convince the physio to let me out of hospital but had to agree to crutches. As soon as I got home I felt much better and the next day I was only using crutches to help with stairs, the following day I didn`t use them at all.
All much better now and enjoying being a mum and spending time with the 2 men in my life :)
