Matthew`s birthstory
January 21st I had my last midwife appointment.. my mom had noticed that what the midwives had said was the baby`s bum was very round and hard.. so the midwives had a good feel and decided that I should go for an ultrasound because it was looking like the baby was breech and they had no idea how they could have mistaken it for so long.. also my blood pressure was boarder line hyper tension so they decided I should go for a stress test the next day.. I spent the rest of that day laying on the couch because my midwives didn`t want me going into labor before we knew for sure how the baby was laying.. so January 22nd Tim stayed home with me.. we just watched movies until it was time to go to the hospital for the stress test.. the stress test I found was really boring.. the baby moved like crazy which was really nothing new but my blood pressure was still WAY to high I could tell the nurse was really concerned but I really wasn`t worried.. so they decided that they should draw some blood for some tests.. then when those results got back they decided to test my urine.. then they decided I should head downstairs for my ultrasound.. turns out the baby was breech.. thankfully my mom and dad got there just in time to see the ultrasound and get in the hospital before visiting hours were over.. I met up with my midwives in the hallway and my main midwife assured me that they would probably just send me home and that nothing was going to happen tonight.. so they got me into a bed and I waited for the doctor to come tell me what was going on.. he came in and told me that the baby was full term and that the anaesthesiologist would be there in half an hour.. this was a HUGE shock because I was so sure that I`d be going home that night.. so I got changed into a gown they put an IV in my hand and in what seemed like seconds I was walking down the hallway to the operating room.. when I walked in everything was really creepy clean and I wasn`t allowed to touch anything which made me really nervous.. I sat on the table with my bum hanging out like they told me to and all the doctors and nurses introduced themselves to me.. I was fine up until one nurse asked me if I knew what I was having and what his name would be then I just started to bawl.. I was so scared and wasn`t expecting this at all.. so they got me to hug a pillow and relax my shoulders so I could get the epidural.. I continued to cry so all the nurses crowded around me to calm me down.. I hated the epidural because it was the opposite of how I wanted to deliver my baby.. I wanted a home birth with no pain medication but this is what needed to be done.. after they were finished stabbing me with needles my legs started to get warm from the top to the bottom until I couldn`t feel a thing.. they laid me down then strapped my arms down.. after that they put the curtain up so I don`t know what was going on.. thats when they let Tim in the room so I tried to stop crying and play it cool.. all I could feel were tugs and pulls.. it felt like someone was jumping up and down on my stomach with no pain.. it felt like it took them all day to get him out and then I heard him scream.. once again I started crying but this time was because I was happy.. I watched them carry him away then watched them check him out.. all I could see were his feet and they were so beautiful.. it seemed like it took forever for them to stitch me back up.. Tim kept running back and forth from me to the baby.. they wheeled me into the recovery room where I got to breast feed my boy and have my family come in and meet him.. my family stayed for an hour but had to go because visiting hours were way over.. me, Tim and Matthew waited in the recovery room until I could move my legs enough to bend my knees myself.. the nurse then washed me which was very awkward but it had to be done while Tim held our baby.. we got to our room a little after 2am.. I made Tim stay awake because I wanted him to go with the nurse when they took Matthew for his bath.. I was sad I missed out but I wasn`t in any condition to be walking around.. we spent the next couple of days in the hospital ..Matthew was discharged before I was but him and Tim were allowed to stay with me.. he was circumcised and I got my staples out the Friday that we went home.. even though it wasn`t what I had planned on I`d do it all again in a second for my boy.. hes growing so much and I couldn`t love him anymore.
