Tanner-Jason-Powers`s birthstory
Started laboring at 7 pm 6/13/10 with contractions 7 minutes apart. I was told to go to the hospital at 5 minutes apart when I called the doctor. At 4:30 in the a.m. on the 14th, they were 5 minutes apart for an hour. We arrived at the hospital at about 6:30 in the morning and I was 2 cm dilated.
At 8 a.m. they broke my water and I was dilated only 2 cm apart at that time. They gave me a very low dose of pitocin at this point. At 10 a.m. I was dilated to 3 cm and I got my epidural. I was fully dilated by 1 p.m. and began pushing. I pushed for a total of 3 hrs. I was not told that the baby was in any distress, but if I had to guess, I`d say something wasn`t going quite right. They even tried to use the vacuum (kiwi) to assist in delivery but Tanner just wasn`t progressing into the birth canal. The doctor said my pelvis was too narrow for the baby so we decided a c-section was the best and safest option at this point. My blood pressure was high during the whole(pregnancy @ 28 weeks too) labor and delivery and the baby`s heart rate started to drop with contractions.
Tanner Jason Powers was born via c-section at 15:39 (3:39pm) on June 14, 2010 weighing 7 lbs 4 oz and measuring 19.75 inches long. His apgar score was 6/8 which was scary because he was blue (from head to toe) when they showed him to me and it took a couple minutes before he cried. We love him so much!
