Lucy's birth story.

i was 18 years old when i was pregnant with Lucy and she arrived on the 22nd April 2001, 8 days after her original due date of the 14th April.

My first contraction was on Thursday the 19 April 2001, i timed them and when they got to the point of being 5 - 7 minutes apart i rang for an ambulance to take me to the hospital. the ambulance arrived and me and my mum set off for the hospital. i was hooked up to the monitors that measure your contractions and the babies heart rate. everything was going fine. contractions were still regular but not progressing.

It gets to friday lunch time and the hospital decide to send me home as i wasn't progressing, i was only in slow labour. i went back home and tried to rest for the remainder of the day.

Got a little bit of sleep on friday night, couldn't get comfy as was still having contractions every 10 minutes now.

On saturday the 21st i decided to take my little sister (she was 7 at the time) over the road to the park. whilst i was in the park i seen my other sister (she was 14 at the time) boyfriend. he was asking me about the baby and when are you due. i told him i was already over due. he was asking what happens when your in labour. so i said to him "I'm in labour now". the poor boy looked slightly terrifed and started to run off saying he'll go and get my mum. i had to shout him back and tell him it was fine.

By saturday night i just couldn't handle it any more and rang for an ambulance again. the ambulance turned up and took me to the hospital. the put me in a wheelchair and got me admitted and up to the ward. was now having contractions every 5 minutes and i'll be the first to put my hands up and say i was being vocal about things at this point. i was so tired i'd had hardly any sleep as obviously i'd been having contractions since Thursday and it was now saturday.

I was admitted onto the maternity ward and i was with 3 other ladies. i have to say that one woman who was on the ward really pissed me off. She was only 5 months pregnant and was in the hospital with blood pressure. i was in labour and she had the nerve to start tutting about the noise i was making. i swear to god i nearly went over to her. The midwives decided to move me down into the delivery room as they could see i was getting aggitated. once i was in the delivery room they checked me and could you friggen believe it i was only 1 - 2cm dialated. it had taken me near enough 3 days to get that far.

i was given Pethidine, Gas and Air and also the Epidural. Bless my mum once i had the epidural she was rubbing my legs and i said to her that's not doing anything, and she's going yeah it's helping you. so i was like Mum my leg is numb i can't even feel what you are doing.

with being given the drugs i was able to have a little snooze between some of the contractions. not much rest but obvioulsy enough for me to have woken up a little further progressed.

it got to roughly 10/11am and the midwife checked me and said your at 8cm now and it will be a couple more hours. Well from the time it took for her to examine me and then to walk to the door, i'd turned round to my mum and said "help me off the table i need to go to the toilet". obviously my mum says no you dont' its the baby coming. so i said to my mum seriously i need the toilet, it's a poo (i whispered this bit). my mum told my midwife she needs to push. the midwife said i just checked her. but my mum says no she needs to push now.

i started pushing for what seemed like forever the midwife kept telling me she could see the head. in the end i was pushing for that long and listening to the midwife saying i can see a head i ended up shouting at the midwife "HOW BIG IS THE FUCKING HEAD THEN".

i have no idea how long i was pushing for but i ended up practically begging the midwife to JUST FUCKING PULL HER OUT. i had an epistomony (sp) and a short while later Lucy Patricia Maureen W******* was born.

the next day on the ward one of the midwifes who man the station desk came over to me and said "Andrew has rung for you, can you ring him back please" she then also asked whehter i wanted to have security put on the doors to stop Andrew getting in. .

At the time me and Andrew weren't together and i have no memory whatsoever of saying anything about Andrew but i certainly must have said something. i wish i could remember what though.

that's about as much as i can remember for Lucy's birth story (this is written 8 years later)

i do know one thing though from start to finish my labour with Lucy was roughly 76 hours long

but they were worth it.

x

John`s birthstory

finally managed to get on a computer and get my birth story up.

on the 14th November 2008 (7 days overdue) i woke up at 5am experiencing contractions. i stayed in bed for a while thinking is this the real deal or were they braxton hicks. turned out they were the real deal. i started timing them myself and they were coming approx every 10 minutes. i managed to cope alright with them and i kept getting up and down to go to the bathroom. At about 7am Andrew woke up and realised i was awake. he said to me `are you ok` and i said yeah i`m fine (like you do) he then saw my face as i had a contraction and started saying are you sure your ok, so i told him that the baby was coming and i`d been having contractions for the last two hours (he slept through them lol) and let me tell you i`ve never seen the boy move so fast. he shot out of bed and started throwing clothes on. meanwhile i`m still lay there on the bed. i told him it was fine and we had hours left and he should get back in bed and have some more sleep. Andrew reluctantly got back in bed (fully clothed) and lay there watching me as he was too excited to sleep. i was still timing them at this stage (still 7 - 10 minutes apart) and he actually asked me what i kept looking at my watch for. bless him he didn`t know about the timing.

it got to about half 8 in the morning and my contractions were still bearable. so Andrew went to the shop to go and buy credit so we could ring my mum and the minute he left the house OMG did my contractions suddenly get worse.

Lucy by this time had got up and she`s stood in my doorway saying Mum whats that noise (by this time i was getting a little bit moany with the pain) so i told her the baby was coming and she was to go and get dressed and do her teeth (gotta take care of her pearly whites lol)

By the time Andrew got back from the shop i was sat on the toilet trying to keep myself calm as i was getting the urge to push and i didn`t want to scare Lucy, Andrew rang for a taxi, then i rang my mum and just told her the baby was coming and she was to get to the hospital as she was going to be with me as Andrew didn`t want to watch the birth as he wouldn`t be able to cope with me being in that much pain. The taxi came and we set off for the hospital which is about 5 - 10 minutes away in a car. the whole time we were in the car i was getting the urge to push and i was in that much pain i nearly broke Andrew`s hand.

We pulled up outside the hospital, (taxi man was shouting good luck to me) and i just made a dash for the doors, walked through to the reception and the woman says to me `Are you for booking in` i just looked at her and walked away. i was in so much pain i couldn`t even speak. i tried to sit down in the waiting room but ended up on my back on the floor in the middle of reception. all i could hear was GET A TROLLEY and there were 7 midwives running down the corridor to me. they managed to get me in a room off reception, pants were off, my waters apparently were bulging, they shoved the gas and air in my mouth, one push and John was born. i had been in the hospital for a total of 5 minutes.

a couple of minutes after John was born my mum came running in saying have i missed anything lol i was only there holding the baby.

John weighed 8 pound 4 ounces. he has a port wine birth mark on his face just under his lip so it looks like he is sticking his tongue out (but that should fade away on it`s own as he grows) and one of his feet was slightly turned in but they say that could be because it was tucked under my ribs. he has had a scan of his hips to check they are ok and luckily they are absolutely fine so they don`t need to do anything about his foot, they shown me how to do physio on it just to strenghten his muscles.

i had a second degree tear from delivering so quickly and John had the jitters, my blood pressure shot up so they kept me in overnight till it had gone down.

the midwives at the hospital were calling me the reception lady as that is very nearly where i gave birth and they kept sticking their heads round the corner saying are you the lady from reception so i felt like a minor celebrity. Andrew went and bought the reception ladys some chocolate as they ended up keeping an eye on Lucy for me. when i saw them after the birth they told me it had brightened their day up.

he is now 8 weeks old and he is the most beatuifulist little boy i have ever seen (i`m not biased lol) and he is such a good baby, he was sleeping through the night (well most nights) since he was 3 weeks old, he started smiling at 3 weeks and this weekend we started to get his little chuckles, he specially likes it when i sing Clap Hands to him.

i am just waiting on getting his pictures emailed to me so i shall be putting them up shortly so you can all see my gorgeous little man.

i am the proudest mum in the world
