I went into labor on Thursday, May 14 in the evening around 9. I had contractions all night long that were 2-3 minutes apart. Around 5 am we started talking about going to the hospital and the contractions quit. I went to work Friday morning for a meeting I had with the CFO and was having irregular contractions the whole morning. I went home around 11 and tried to nap. The contractions started up again 5 minutes apart consistently around 6 pm Friday night and again, the contractions went all night and then quit around 4 in the morning. So now, after two nights of no sleep, I once again tried to nap through contractions. Saturday around 4 in the afternoon, the contractions started getting about 5 min apart again and finally around 9 in the evening started getting consistently 2-3 minutes apart again. I walked on the treadmill for 3 hours and finally at midnight decided to start heading to the hospital. I was afraid the contractions would quit again, but they didn't. We go to the hospital around 1am Sunday morning and I was dilated 3 cm. They checked me at 2 am and I was dilated to 4 cm. Since I was trying to go for a natural birth, I asked to not be checked unless absolutely necessary. They checked me again at shift change at 6 am and I had dilated only 1/2 a cm. That was the end of my dilation. They broke my water at 10 am and started pitocin. When they broke my water, they found meconium. I ended up getting an epidural around noon since I couldn't handle the back labor anymore after 3 days of it and when they checked me at 3 pm I still hadn't dilated anything from 6 am -- still at 4 1/2 cm. So they decided to do a c-section and 30 minutes later Rachel had arrived. Because she swallowed meconium she had to spend the first 15 hours in the NICU, but she was fine.
