After what must have been the easiest pregnancy in the history of pregnancy, came an easy delivery. We showed up at the hospital around 7, did paperwork and waited around until they brought us in the back to prepare for surgery. I changed and waited while they hooked me up to machines to monitor contractions Silas' heart rate and IV. The nurse had trouble with finding a vein, and ended up poking me six times until she passed me off to someone else. I think I'd say that was probably the worst of it. At some point they had Chris get dressed and brought me into the VERY cold operating room. They put me on the table and started to do the Spinal. That was painful, but even now it didn't seem too bad. It certainly wasn't worse than the IV mishap. I was completely numb from chest down within minutes. what's funny is, you know that feeling when your foot goes or leg... or any body part goes to sleep? I had that until it had taken full effect. Until then, anything that touched me felt like a bunch of little needles poking me. I was awake for the surgery and didn't feel anything. It didn't last long, and even now it's somewhat blurry. I was very sleepy and it felt like someone may have been sleeping on my chest, but that's it. And like that, it was over. He was out and crying. They shown him to me and let Chris sit with him and take pictures for 10 or 15 minutes until they brought him to run tests in the nursery while I was stitched up and carted off to the recovery area. I stayed there for 2 or 3 hours, while they watched me, and helped me with starting breast feeding. As soon as the anesthesia wore off enough so I could move my knees they moved me into a room. Unfortunately It was a semi-private room. All of the private rooms were taken at the time.
So far the recovery has been awesome. They had me on pain medication the entire time I stayed there and it's a good thing too. Because now that I'm home, I'm finding that the less powerful medication they gave me isn't nearly as effective. I stayed as long as possible which turned out to be 4 days. The c-section was Monday morning, and I left the hospital Friday afternoon. My mom or Aidan couldn't come to see me in the hospital since they both woke up Morning sick with a cold or something. But Chris' dad and stepmother came to see us, and so did his brother.
Silas is a beautiful little boy. He is laid back and sweet. He looks exactly like Aidan did as a newborn. and looks just like Christian also. They have the same mouth and ears. They did his circumcision I think the second day in the hospital and they also said he was slightly tongue tied, so they fixed that. They said that may have been the reason he was having trouble latching properly and what may have made breast feeding so uncomfortable and painful. He sleeps a lot and eats a lot. He passed his hearting test and they said he has excellent hearing.
He stayed in the room with us they didn't have a nursery. I think after experiencing having it both ways I think I actually prefer it that way. I feel like it allowed me to start bonding with him much quicker. I think it also encouraged my mature milk to come in quicker. One of the problems with it was the adjacent room was occupied and the baby who was in there cried and cried. He would wake up Silas, and Silas would wake him up. But other than that it was manageable.
So overall I feel extremely blessed to have a new little addition to my little family.
