Benjamin-Brice`s birthstory
I arrived at the hospital for induction to begin at 12:30am on 1-20-09, they gave me the cytotec (sp?) insert and I slept for the night, my 8 year old son and my mom accompanied me for this adventure. Around 7:30 am they started the pitocin drip and I was already 80% effaced and 2cm, things progressed very quickly from there. My contractions began very quickly after the drip started which just felt mostly like menstrual cramps for awhile. Then the Dr came in and broke my water about 9:30 and of course the contractions got stronger, I was still about to breath through them with no problem, So Thankfully I was able to avoid the Demerol this time around. As soon as I was 4cm they gave me the epidural which was probably around 10am. Things were smooth sailing for a little while but then the epidural started to wear off so they gave me another dose of meds and I couldn`t feel anything. When it came time to push the nurses told me to not cough or sneeze until the Dr arrived because he was right there, my body had done most of the work. I pushed 3 times and he was out. The epidural was soo strong though I couldn`t even tell that I was pushing anything. I had a very small episeotomy (can`t spell that either) which would normally have only required 1 stitch but he couldn`t make the bleeding stop so he added a 2nd stitch, then I had some hemoraging from where the placenta released from the uterus wall so they started back up the pitocin drip to make me contract to stop the bleeding so Dr was down there quite awhile trying to fix me up, but overall very good delivery. My mom was in the room with me and was my wonderful photographer. As for my boy, the cord was wrapped around his neck one time but this did not cause any problems as he came out crying.
