Alexander-Robert`s birthstory
After all my concerns about going long past my due date and with the doctor at my last appointment at 38weeks telling me baby was already over 7lbs I was anxious that I was going to end up with a late and big baby. So, imagine my surprise when I woke up Monday morning at 4:30AM having contractions. They were really mild and I wasn`t even sure that they were actual labor contractions and not braxton hicks, but I DID time them and they were fairly regular. Still, they weren`t particularly painful and if anything seemed like false labor so I sent my husband to work- I remember thinking that it was nice that my body was finally making signs that it might want to start the labor process within a couple of days. Still, the contractions were getting more noticeable, and then I went to the bathroom and had the bloody show. OK! I called my poor husband, who had just gotten to work, and told him to turn around and come home. In the meantime I contacted my ob who told me to labor at home for as long as possible but to keep her posted on my progress. When they hit a certain pain threshold and frequency and were 3-5 apart we went to the hospital. By then they were very painful and I was looking for an epidural as soon as I got there but when they checked me I was only 1.5 dilated. Thankfully the doc didn`t seem to think I needed to wait to 4cms to get the epidural, so they hooked me up fairly quickly and it was a blessed relief. It became more important almost immediately, however, because as I progressed the baby`s heart rate kept dropping and at one point I had a million docs running into the room trying to stabilize everything. His heart rate went back up but then would drop back down with each contraction so they rushed me to the OR for an emergency csection because it seems as though the baby was distressed. My husband and I were desperately trying to stay calm. The epidural mentioned before turned out to be a huge help because they already had a port in my back and so they just administered potent anesthetics for the procedure. Otherwise, since the csection came on so quickly, they would have had to put me to sleep for the delivery and I would have missed Xander`s first cries. A couple of minutes after I was wheeled into the OR Xander was out of my body and giving some great cries. My doc said that the distress probably came about because he was a smaller sized baby so his cord was kind of thin, and it was likely
getting too compressed with each contraction- depriving him of oxygen. His apgars were 9 and 9, so I am so grateful my doc made the decision to take him out before his distress got too severe. 12 hours after I woke up unsure if I was even in labor I was being wheeled out of the OR with my beautiful little boy in my arms and my wonderful husband by my side

Simon-Nathaniel`s birthstory
I was scheduled for a repeat csection for Wednesday september 21. On Thursday Septemer 15 I had been feeling dampness in my panties throughout the day, but nothing was there when I checked so I just attributed it to sweat or any of the other fun discharges that happen in late pregnancy. After picking up my son from preschool around 3:30 I noticed more wetness and some mild contractions. I eventually called the doctor and he told me to time them. I timed them for a while but they remained irregular and eventually tapered off. Since I knew I was to have a csection even if I went into labor I made sure to keep my stomach empty while I was uncertain if labor was beginning. Once my contractions had tapered off for an hour though, I figured it was safe to eat dinner. At 9pm I had a meal. I still felt wired though, so I stayed up watching some tv, and at 11pm my water broke. It wasn`t the huge gush that some people describe, but it was enough to make me pretty certain it was `go-time` especially since it was followed by some of my plug and the onset of more contractions. We got to the hospital and my contractions intensified. They started coming every 1-3 minutes and were a 10 on the pain scale. I had to wait about an hour and a half for the epidural, and it felt like ages, but it worked and was an amazing relief. Since I was at risk for uterine rupture, we were still planning the csection but needed to wait until my stomach was empty. I was supposed to go at 5am but my cervix was changing too quickly: I went from 2cm to 8cm within a hour, which is why my contractions were so insane. The baby was still incredibly high up though, and facing upward, which would have made pushing a long and complicated process and not safe for a vbac situation, so they took me to the OR at 4am. I had a bit of a panic attack when we started moving to the operating room, but my husband was an amazing calming presence. It took a while to get me completely numb for the surgery, and it got a bit scary for me for a bit, but they got me settled and started the surgery and my beautiful boy was born at 4:15am. He had a nice loud cry and peed on the doctor within a few minutes of birth, which made us laugh. He has so much hair too. He`s very alert and interactive for a newborn, and lots of fun to cuddle. I now have 2 beautiful and healthy sons, and feel like a very lucky woman!
