I woke up on Saturday morning April 25th at 4: 00a.m. with a very strong menstrual cramps and wondered to myself if this was indeed a real contraction? So I looked at the clock and told myself if it happend again I'd start timing them...well I did get another exactly 8 minutes later , then another and so on for the next 14 hours every 8 to 10 minutes apart. I hesitated to call L&D because they were not 5 minutes apart yet but htey were getting pretty strong and I was feeling no movement from Quinn, so we called and were told to come in and be put on a monitor. So my husband who was smoking ribs all day raced around faser than I've ever seen him move and started changing and we were inthe car. We didn't take everything with us because I thought for sure we'd come rigth back and eat..well that was stupid of me. We had planned on cooking ribs and chowing down the nigth before my induction which was set for the next dat at 4pm. Well, we arrived att he hospital and I was sure I'd be sent home. I put on my gown and the whole time was telling myself and my husband that we were just going to be sent home and I was going to be a littele embarassed...well they hooked me up and the doctor came in and said I was having pretty strong contractions, that I was in real labor and she was not sending me home because I'd just be turning around and coming rigth back by the looks of things. I continued to contract and about an hour after we arrived my contractions were 5 minutes apart and geting stronger. I was put on a little pitocin and maaan did that really get things moving! I went from 3cm at 1:00am the 26th to 8cm by 3:00am...I was asking for my epi by about 2:00am but had to wait about another 40 minutes because there were three other laboring mom to be's getting theirs! I was so scared of the epi but afterwards realized my imagination was much worse than the actual experience...my whole lower body excpet one little section on my left wentnumb and I felt every painful contraction for the next 30-40 minutes before it took effect on that area. I never cried out,,,I just breathed deep and hard and have never concentrated so hard in my life. Around 4:30am I started feeling nauseated and they gave me somehting throught eh IV for that. Then at 5":00am my doctor came in, told me I was fully dialted and it was time to push. OMG...I was so scared...I had been wondering if I would know how to push when the time came and here I was face to face with the reality that there was not urning back now...34 minutes later my Quinn was born and I will never forget how it felt to feel his body leave mine...it was the most amazing thing in my life to date...nothing can top how it felt to look down at my son and look at my husbands teary eyes and know we had created something so beautiful and perfect...I said to my husband..."look what our love made"...it was so awesome. We never did get to eat those ribs...we gave them to our brother in law after John went back home (we live 5 minutes from the hospital) to collect the rest of our things!
