Mason-Paul`s birthstory
Hello ladies! Sorry it has taken me this long to tell my birth story, but with 2 kids on my hands, things are hectic!
Anyway, it was the morning of Feb. 26 and mother nature decided she wanted to spit enough snow out that caused the schools to run 2 hours late. I had been having contractions for a few hours, but they weren`t any harder or closer together than they had been for quite sometime. So I didn`t think anything of it. Well, about 20 minutes before my daughter`s bus was to arrive, they started in closer together and harder. Of course Josh was at work that day. Work had been so slow that he hadn`t been working and they actually called him in! UGH! I called my SIL and she said that I should call my Dr`s office. I wasn`t sure what was going on because with my daughter I never went into labor on my own...she was induced. The dr`s office said they would let L&D know that I was on my way and to go straight there. Well, I called my best friend and had her and my SIL meet me there. I had to drop my daughter off at a friends house to catch the bus on the way. By the time I arrived at the hospital it was 10am. At this point, I wasn`t sure if they were going to keep me or send me home since I was 13 days early, so I didn`t call Josh. I had to give them a urine sample, undress, they checked me and called the on call dr (since my dr was in Paris!). They hurried back in my room and finally told me that I was at a 3, but his head was still floating. The on call dr told them to admit me that I wasn`t going anywhere until I had the baby. So I switched rooms and called Josh. He had to come home and grab my bag and the diaper bag and a few other items to bring with him. When he finally got to the hospital I was at a 4, but his head was still floating. They broke my water around 12:30 and of course things started picking up. At that point I hadn`t asked for any sort of pain relief. I was so hungry, I couln`t stand it. I was asking people to smuggle me some food in since the hospital staff would only let me have ice chips...now how is that supposed to fill your belly up! I hadn`t eaten anything since the night before at dinner. Well, I was progressing at an ok pace until I got to a 5. Once I got to a 5, I went from a 5 to an 8 in a half hour! OMG, I was in the worst pain ever! I had a whole room full of people, including my daughter. I made everyone leave until they had it under control. They first had given me Phetenol and of course that didn`t take the edge off, so they called for the epidural. That had finally worked, but then I slowed WAY down. We were playing the waiting game for about 1 1/2 hours before they decided to gove me some pitocin to pick it back up again. All of a sudden I had the huge urge to push and again, I sill had everyone in there. There was so much yelling and running around to get people out of there that I thought I was going to strangle them all. HELLO, I`m pushing here! I had pushed him out so fast (7 minutes) that there was no time for an episiotomy that I ended up with a 4th degree tear...talk about PAIN! He was immediately taken in for chest x-rays and a complete blood count because they said he wasn`t moving as vigorously like he should be. Those came back fine...thank God! Josh was so scared, he wasn`t sure what was going on and wasn`t sure how he was going to tell me the worst. I of course was still trying to get the after birth come out and get all cleaned and stiched up. Mason was about 1 1/2 hours old before I got to finally hold and kiss him!
Mason ended up dropping 19 ounces from birth, so we ended up back in the hospital on an IV. That was the worst thing I ever had to see! We now have his weight under control and he is doing much better! We have found out that he is protein sensitive and also has acid reflux disease. UGH!
I hope everyone else had a good and memorable delivery and is enjoying the most precious thing on Earth!!!
