Trystian-Haru`s birthstory

I went in for my 37 week check up and all was well. The doc wanted me to come back for an ultrasound to check fluid levels next week... I went in for the fluid level check and was told that my induction is set and I go in on Tuesday next week. This freaked me out a bit because I didnt want to be induced at all. I wanted a natural birth. Well on Saturday I went to the BX and Commisary and my husband and I were trying to bring on labor by walking a lot!!! Sat night we had just gotten a cinnabon for a snack and I was feeling kinda wet that my pants were wet enough to leave moisture on the seat. I thought maybe my water had broken. We headed home to try to get a hold of the parents of the boy we were watching and no luck. I called the OB ward and told them my leakage of fluid and NO contractions. They said to come in anyways. We went in and because no children are allowed in the delivery rooms or in the ward anyways, Tony had to go sit out in the waiting room with the little boy. I was hooked up to the NST and they did a sample test for the fluid. Turns out not to be my water. They turn on the NST and as we are sitting there I`m watching the `contractions` on screen but dont feel a thing. Every once in a while a cramp will coincide with the contraction on screen, but that`s it. These are little contractions and every time one of them happens, Trystian`s (our baby)`s heart dips down in the 30`s... This was scary! They had me moving all which way to try to ease the situation. No luck, each contraction equals a distressed baby. At this point Tony had finally gotten a hold of the parents, and they came and picked up their son. Tony joined me in the room. The next time the baby's heart dipped, the nurses put an oxygen mask on me. My hubby was busy reading a magazine and not paying attention to anything going on. The doctor came in and told me that my chances of having a natural vaginal birth are slim to none. That the best thing they could do is start me on pitocin and break my water and hope that they dont have to do an emergency C-section which is what it probably would end up being. The other option is to just have a c-section. The doctor suggested c-section but gave me the choice because she knew I really wanted a natural birth. Either way I was going to have a baby very soon! Tony ran home to grab our things. He didnt know what I was going to chose, or much of how long it would be until we had the baby. Another contraction that I didnt feel and the nurses had me moving all around again, I in tears consented to the C-section without Tony there. I felt that if we didnt get Trystian out soon, that we might have a very bad bad sad night. The nurses were calling Tony trying to get a hold of him to get back ASAP as I would be going into surgery in about an hour. Tony Finally got back and asked what was going on as if he didnt know the baby's heart was decelerating earlier. Tony was in "daddy to be" mode and was oblivious of everything!!! Well we were briefed and signed papers, and I cried.

After all the signing of papers and briefings of what was going to happen, they wheeled me to the OR. Tony got scrubs on and met me in the OR after my spinal had been administered. I felt lots of pressure and some nausea and such... but at 2113 we heard this beautiful scream of Trystian beeing born! Tony got pics and got nauseated himself. I felt a lot of pressure!! pulling and such. Felt nauseated when the uterus was out of my body (the anestheiologist was keeping me informed of why I was feeling the way I was). I didnt get to see my son before they took him to my room because I was throwing up due to all the pressure and lightheadedness. I was shaking uncontrolably. Once I was stapeled together to the delivery recovery room we went. I didnt get to see Trystian because the nurses were running in and out and I kept asking. My friend Lori was there visiting at that point and she went over and took the side off the warmer so that I could see Trystian. I held him about 2 hours after he was born. I tried to nurse but Trystian was more interested in `biteing` my nipples than actually sucking. :) lol. We tried and tried, and once we got a good latch I felt very happy. The nurses kept him in the warmer and I had to call to hold him for a while because they say he wasnt keeping his temperature yet. He was and is the most beautiful baby I have ever seen! I love him to death!!!

It all started on the 21st, Fathers day, June 2009... I woke up to a phone call from my superior officer telling me I was to go into work for the day... I was not suppose to be at work that day because I am on half days and restricted duty and whatnot...

Well I go into work at 1pm as told, I drove myself. I had had a few contractions thru out the day, but didnt think much of it... they werent regular or anything.

About 4pm, I'm sitting at the computer in the DCC (control center) and I feel this gush of fluid!! So I am like "hhhrrrmmmm, ok, that doesnt feel right"... I tell my co-worker I'd be right back !! I run to the bathroom to check if I really broke my water or what it was... I knew I didnt pee myself... I was right... water just pouring out, and so I peed while I was in there anyways, and called my doula. My doula told me that I should make my way home and give her a call again.

I went out to tell my co-workers who then told me I was just trying to get out of work first, and then I showed them my crotch soaking wet and it spreading and they eventually started to "panick" and told me I couldnt drive and what not... I told them I could drive as long as I got to go then. Well I get home and Tony is ready to go to the hospital... I told him to calm down and we were gonna wait for contractions to start getting regular first... Well then we get the babysitter set and we take off to walmart to walk around when the doula made it over. We walked and walked... the contractions started coming pretty regularly- about every 3-5 mins lasting about 1-1/2 mins each... We decided to head to the hospital. The place seemed like a mad house!! Everyone seemed to be there in labor... Well so I am taken to a room and then they checked my dialation and I am told I am a 3, and yes my water broke. I'm hooked up to the screen and yes contractions are what I thougtht they were. Well that being said, I am now still not in too much pain, just hot because we have 3 people stuck in the little labor triage room!!

They move me to the labor and delivery room and we hang out while i'm hooked up. We watch some tv and relax, we pace, and walk around the room and the ward, we try games and playing on the computer... contractions kept coming and coming and stilll around the same pattern but maybe a lil stronger. I'd say around a 4 on a pain scale. So that being said, I am going thru this for hours and hours!! around 20 hours in I get checked and I'm still apparently the same... Leanna my midwife comes in and does a check on me and states me as a 4. (on Friday before this, I was a 4 at her office)... so apparently still no change... Leanna says we are really cutting it close as my water had broken I am at risk for infection. So I am like ok... What are the options? I get told that we can augment with pitocin, jsut do a c-section, or wait it out... I ask if there is any other option and she tells me that I can try nipple stimulation... So I tell her I want to try natural methods first. She leaves us be, and I go ahead and get in the shower with Tony... We try nipple stimulation along with being a little intimate to get the hormones going... Well this definately get's things rolling... I end up getting contractions one right after eachother and about a 9 on the pain scale!!!!! Well we go about this for a few hours... At the 24 hour mark, Leanna comes in and checks me... I am worn out!!! so much pain and I could barely stand it!!! Well I'm still a 4!!!!!!!!!!! So we are told we are really cutting now, and need the baby out soon as to infection. We decide on the pitocin... but not till after I get the epidural!! I cried and begged for the epidural as she when she checked me I had a contraction and it hurt SO BAD!!! Well I apparently at this point was sleeping inbetween contractions so I would wake up screaming in agony... I got the epidural and and things started feeling so much better!!! They started the pitocin. I was told an hour later that I was a 5 dialated!!! I was happy, it was working!!! The next hour I was told that I was 90% effaced... so it was working!!! Well then things started going down hill... I got a fever and the 3rd hour I was told that I was not progressing anymore... so we came to a decision that I needed the c-sectionn again. We started prepping and then I had Leanna check me one more time and still no change. Baby's head had molded a bit but wasnt budging!!! So I was prepped and wheeled ino the surgery. I didnt like the anesthesiologist very much as he didnt seem to want ot help me out when I would tell him I was nauseated, or starting to feel pain, or light headed and such... Well Atreyu was born at 1014PM on the 22nd of June!! He had scores of 8 and 9. He was 6 lb 1 oz and is 21 inches long!!! He is so small!!!

Both my doula, Jessica and Tony were in the room as well as my midwife Leanna. It was great!!! After I was all closed up, they handed Atreyu to me and wheeled me to the recovery room. I breastfed right away!! It was so nice. But I was so tired... I had pretty much no sleep in the past 2 days and with all the drugs during surgery I was starting to doze. I had them take Atreyu to the warmer where they did the normal stuff like all the tests and whatnot while I tried to rest a little... then a few hours later, they gave him to me and wheeled me up to the mother baby rooms where we would stay for the next few days till we were discharged.
