I started having contractions on friday but they weren't bad enough that I couldnt walk. I was a Target when it started. At 10 pm friday they became painful enough that I had to watch my breathing and stand or sit still. They were about 10.5 min apart until about 1 am on saturday Aug 16. I called the doctor and he said drink cold water and rest (yeah right). I was not able to sleep until about 10:30 am saturday and only for about an hour. THe contractions got to about 6 min apart by 1:00 pm then by 4:00 they were between 4-6 min apart. We got to the hospital by 5:00 pm and they put me in my private room and I got in the jacuzzi with my husband. He did some nipple stimulation for me to get the contractions going closer together. I really dont remembe what happened until I got the epidural at around 11 or midnight. Then I felt great! Theyd ask me 'how does that feel' and Im like 'how does what feel'? They were asking about the contraction that I couldnt feel. I guess I started pushing at 1:20 am on Sunday Aug 17th. I say I guess because they tell me I pushed for 3 hours although I thought it was only about 2 hours. Good thing too because I wouldve been discouraged had I known that. I was watching the clock though because my sister was due to leave for her flight home by 3:45 am. When Lucie still was not born by then, my sister called the airport and rescheduled her flight. The whole time I pushed, the midwife was stretching my perineum and I swear that hurt just as bad as a contraction did, BUT I didn't tear because of it! Im so happy about that! The last hour of the pushing was really the only part that hurt after I got the epidural. Finally Lucie came out at 4:21 am. She cried a little, not too much. She didnt have much of any blood on her and no white stuff. They laid her on my chest and she was looking at me and sticking her tongue out repeatedly. Then my hubby cut her cord and my sister trimmed the cord. I dont remember too much after that because I was so tired from not sleeping and hard pushing. I tried to breast feed her but she wouldnt take it. She had a lot of junk in her belly from the womb she needed to cough up first. Monday night was when she finally started latching on good and getting some good nursing in. We're home on tuesday morning and she is sleeping well, eating well, and being a beautiful baby! We love her so much. A big adjustment will be for the 2 cats and the dog who are very curious about her. Oh and as for stretch marks, I just noticed them around my belly button. I had a feeling Id get them there because that area looked thinned when I was still pregnant.
