Birth Story
On Tuesday the 18th of May I was 36+5. I was at work as usual and thought that something wasn't quite 'right'. The baby wasn't moving as much as usual and his kicks were really gentle instead of really hard like they usually are. So I decided to start a kick count. My hospital recommends that you should be able to feel your baby move 10 times at least in a day. On Tuesday I only felt him about 3 times which really freaked me out because he was normally very active. I went home and told my husband what was happening and by dinner time, I hadn't felt any movement since 3pm. I was really starting to panic so I used my doppler. Thank goodness there was a heartbeat so my hubby told me to stop worrying and get some rest, and that the baby had probably just run out of room for big kicks. So I went to bed. The next morning I dropped my DD at school and rang my midwife as I still wasn't feeling any movement and although the doppler had put my mind at ease, I thought that I should tell her what was happening. WELL, THANK GOD I CALLED HER!!! I had to go into the hospital and the midwives tried all sorts of tricks to try to get him to move, but he wouldn't. So I was hooked up to the fetal monitor. This is were it go scary. His heart rate kept dropping. It would recover and be normal for a few minutes, and then drop again. It was then that the OB came in and told me to call my husband as I would be having the baby that day. I was in shock. I thought that I would be told that I was over reacting and sent home. So my hubby came and was in a bit of shock!!! The OB's ( I had 3 monitoring me and 2 midwives) decided that as long as I was constantly monitored that they would induce me and see if baby could handle labor other wise if baby was having a hard time it would be straight into theatre. So many times during the labor it looked like he would need to come out asap but as soon as the OB's would come into the room and start talking about the c-section his heart rate improved!!! I stalled at 4cm for hours, and the OB's said that enough was enough and that it was time for the c-section. They checked me one last time and I had gone from 4cm to 9cm in one hour! They were then organising doing some blood test with his scalp to see if I would still need the section but before they could do that I had pushed him out! After a very stressful labor, with me constantly looking at the heart monitor, Kylan was born :) PLEASE ALWAYS REPORT TO THE DOCTOR IF YOU FEEL THAT YOUR BABY ISN'T MOVING ENOUGH!!! This could have ended badly if I had just relied on the fact that he had a heartbeat with the doppler. Kylan ended up having Jaundice so he had to be under the billi lights for 2 days but is now at home doing wonerfully. I LOVE MY KIDS!!!!!
