I went in to the hospital to be induced at 3pm. They broke my water at 4pm and my contractions started right away. They checked me and I was dilated to 4cm. About an hour went by, and I decided that I wanted an epidural. I didn't have one with my other two children, so I had no idea what to expect. When they came in to do the epidural they had my husband and my nurse helping me focus on something other than what they were doing. They numbed me and went to work. It was the most horrid pain I have ever had!!! She couldn't get it in the first space, so she had to go up to my next vertebre and try again. I thought I was going to pass out. That whole thing took about 30 minutes or more. By the time it was over and they helped me lay down, I was shaking and sweaty, but the contractions were getting a little more dull. Finally, after getting comfortable, it was completely worth it. I was so relaxed and able to laugh through the contractions. When they checked me again I was dilated to 7. That was about 7 or 8pm. A little while later I was talking to my husband when all of a sudden my body started to push. I told my husband to get the nurse. He rushed out and she was there within the minute. She checked me and I was dilated to 10. She told me not to push until my doctor got there because my babies come out so fast. Thank god my doctor was there within 5 minutes!!! I began pushing and 5 minutes later she was out. When they put her on my chest she was completely blue. They took her immediatly to the incubator and began suctioning her lungs. I was so scared, she wasn't crying, but she was moving, so I knew she was going to be o.k. It seemed like forever before I heard her cry. They were working in her for so long. Finally, when she cried, there was a huge sigh of relief throughout the room. She was pink and screaming!!!! They told me that she came out so fast, there wasn't time for the fluid to get squeezed out of her lungs. Now she is doing great, and has had absolutly no problems. She was well worth the wait, and everyday I thank god for our precious miracle.

Brenna`s birthstory

It started Tuesday with me losing my plug. Wednesday I lost more of my plug. Later that morning, we went out to lunch, and I just didn`t want to eat. I have always been induced, so I never knew how it was to go into labor. I felt `weird.` I felt like it was going to be soon. Thursday I woke up and once again had the feeling baby was coming soon. Hubby worked nights that night, so before he left for work, we did the deed (at about 3:15)... At 4pm, as he was walking out the door I felt my first contraction. I didn`t think much of it because of all the contractions I have had during the entire pregnancy. About a half hour later I noticed they were coming pretty consistantly. I started to time them, and they were coming every 5 minutes. I changed positions a couple times and decided to call L&D, of course they told me to come in. I called hubby, who by this time had been only been clocked in for 20 minutes! I think he made it home in record time!! ;) We dropped off the other kids and headed up to the hospital. The contractions were still coming every 5 minutes but weren`t very painful. When we got to the hospital which was about 45 minutes away they hooked me up to the monitor and sure enough they were still 5 minutes apart. They checked me and said I was 4 and 50% effaced. I got up and walked around, thinking I was getting sent home. I realized after about 4 laps I was having to stop during the contractions. They put me back on the monitor and contractions were 3 minutes apart, but I had no change. I knew I was getting sent home, and was upset because the contractions were real. They hurt and I knew I was in labor. They told me to walk for another hour. so, I did. They checked me again and I had thinned a little more and baby was lower. I still had not been admitted. They had me walk another 45 minutes... Checked me again, and I was at 5cm 90% effaced, and my water bag was bulging out. The doc came in and said `ok your staying, let`s break your water.` I of course was excited and said, `ok!` It was midnight... I was tired, and the contractions were getting stronger. They checked me and I was at 6 1/2cm. About 2am they checked me again and I was still 6 1/2. By this time I was in a lot of pain. At 3am, The contractions were horrible. I could no longer stand during them. They decided to check me and I was at 9cm. Everything in the room went from calm to crazy as they began to break down the bed, and wheel everything in. My body began to involuntarily push. The doctor quickly put on his scrubs, saying, `this baby is coming fast.. You ready?` I was in so much pain I was crying. I started pushing, and before I knew it her head was out. Then her shoulders. Within a total of 3 minutes I had delivered a beautiful baby girl!!!!! They put her on my stomach, as my doc said, `Shes beautiful, and I think you may have just broken a record!!` Brenna Paige was born at 3:36am at 7lbs 3oz, 19in long at 37 weeks 4 days. I had no tearing, which was amazing considering how fast she came out. Hubby was great, I couldn`t have done it without him. He is an amazing man. We are all home and doing wonderful. We are spending our days getting to know this little person that we are so in love with.
