Gabriel`s birthstory

Baby Gabriel is finally here! I had a scheduled c-section at 38 wks 3 days because of his size (he was measuring at 41 wks at 37 wks). I did not sleep very well the night before and was up thinking about the next day and if I had everything ready. We got up at 4:30 and got to the hospital by 5:30. We reported to L&D where a nurse took a urine sample, hooked me up to the belts, and started an IV. The gave me a medicine 30 min before I went in to the OR that was supposed to take away any nausea or vomiting so I wouldn`t throw up on the OR table. I had an adverse reaction to the IV med that caused the back of my throat to go numb and then had to take a oral med that was extremely sour and began to throw up almost immediately. I went to the bathroom to clean up and came back but when I was hooked up again Gabe`s heart rate had decelerated. I had to turn in several positions, be checked to see if the cord was protruding, and was given oxygen to stimulate his heart rate again. I was taken to the OR by a wonderful nurse but when they laid me down on my side to give me a spinal block I became nauseous and threw up again all over my gown and the OR table! They continued anyways and it took them sticking me 5 times in my spine to find the right spot to inject the med. Each time caused a sharp pain and electric sensation to shoot around my spine. I found out later that same anesthesiologist was the one who had tried to do an epidural on my sister in January and missed the site twice so that her`s didn`t take effect. What a quack. When he got the med in, it worked good and I was numb and feeling groggy from the nausea and all which helped to relieve my anxiety. The doctor`s came in and let my husband in and were very sweet and talking to me during the procedure. They had to have one pull Gabe`s head and another applying full force at my belly to get him to pop out of there. They also had to grab both sides of my incision and tug with full force to stretch the skin enough to get his head out. After he was out, he didn`t cry but they kept assuring me he was ok. They brought him to a table 2 ft from my face where I watched them suction his airway and clean him up as he started to cry. He was absolutely beautiful and made my heart melt the moment I laid eyes on him! They brought him to my face and let me touch him where when he heard my voice instantly opened his eyes and stopped crying. It was perfect. My last birth experience was nothing like this and I feel extremely blessed that despite several doctor`s not expecting him to make it past 28 weeks, God kept his mighty hand on me and my child and gave us an experience I never thought possible. My husband, my son, and I love this child very much and he has had a warm welcome by so many visitors and family. I feel that having him has made our family more complete and wouldn`t have traded my experience for anything!
