Henry-Olaf-Greenlee`s birthstory

Henry Olaf Greenlee entered this world on June 20, 2009. It was the day of my baby shower and the whole family had come into town to help put it on. My sister and mom came up with this really cute bird theme and ran with it. At around 6AM that morning, I started feeling contractions. I would get up out of bed and use the restroom thinking they were BH contractions and that would stop it. I asked my husband to time them for me and they were already 4-5 minutes apart!! I went from no labor to full on labor right away!!

We decided to go on to the triage to get checked out but I honestly thought that they would give me a shot of something, the contractions would stop, and I would go back to attend the shower with all of my friends. I was really looking forward to seeing everyone too because I had been on bed rest since late January (incompetent cervix). Well, that was not what our little guy had planned. The contractions did not stop with the shot they just slowed down for about 30 minutes and then picked right back up. Because I had had a previous c-section that was a classical incision, the doctors did not want to risk uterine abruption and decided to go ahead and deliver me that day.

At first they couldn`t get in touch with my doctor but she called at the last minute to say she was on her way!! I was so excited because she has been with me throughout this pregnancy and helped me tremendously with my loss from last year. She was super excited too and just put me at ease that everything would be okay.

Henry entered the world at 10:36 AM kicking and screaming! It was such a relief to hear his cries! He weighed in at 5 lbs 10 oz which was not a bad size for a 34 weeker. Since he was so early though he had to go into the NICU. His lungs were not fully developed so we are working on getting him up to speed. After that, they want to be sure he can regulate his temperature on his own, drink from a bottle on his own, breastfeed on his own, and put on some more weight.

Hopefully he will progress quickly so we can bring him home. I`m so excited to finally be a mom!!!
