Augustus-(Gus)-Benjamin-Kleinberg`s birthstory
It all started with a visit to my on to check on how my mild preeclampsia was doing. My BP was up and after checking all weekend, I knew that something was probably going to happen when I got to my appointment. The doctor looked at all my blood work and urine test from the weekend and told me my kidneys weren`t working properly and there were some other things that were off so he suggested I get induced that morning. A part of me was relieved and a part of me was scared to death. So I called my husband and we went home to grab our things and head to L & D. When I got there I saw another doctor that told me that my preeclampsia was now very severe and since my BP was up I would need to go on magnesium. So they used cervidyl to get my cervix to open (it was barely 1 cm) and 4 hours later it started to slowly open. They put me on the mag, which basically slows contractions and told me I was contracting great and there may not need to be any need pitosin. That changed. I got as far as 2 cm afters hours and hours so they gave me pit along with the mag. Pit speeds up contractions while mag slows everything down so it was a constant battle. I need the mag because I had a high risk for siezuring due to the preeclampsia. I labored for 30 hours, with no epidural, just me using my hypnobirthing techniques. They came in to check me every 2 hours to see how I was prgressing and each time, it was the same thing, no change. I got as far 4 cm after 30 hours and gave up. The mag took it`s toll on me and I couldnt function at all. Couldn`t get out of bed to use the bathroom so they catherized me. I looked at my husband and just said, I can`t do it anymore and he agreed. It was so hard for him to see my like that. He later confessed that he kept going into the bathroom to cry. So they prepped me for surgery and my husband met me in there. I had a spinal and an epidural. I threw up blood during the section, which was alarming, but later realized that it was from my throat. I had horrible acid reflux through my pregnancy and used tums which does not help for acid reflux, it basically makes more acid, something I did not know. So as I laid there with blood splatter on the blue curtain, I heard a baby cry and he was born! My husband went with them to see him get cleaned up and I was wheeled into recovery. I had to stay in the hospital for 4 days, but we`re finally home and starting to feel normal again. It was the hardest thing I ever had to do in my life, but in the end I have a perfect baby boy that I can`t stop looking at and crying over. He`s so amazing. Now if I could only get him from not wanting to nurse every 5 minutes!
