Weight @ birth: 7 lbs 9 oz
Length @ birth: 20 inches

We had known for quite sometime that we would need to have a c-section and had the date, May 20th scheduled for over a month now. The night before the big day I thought that I would sleep fine and my husband would be up all night. I had not felt nervous or anxious about the delivery at all while my husband was on pins and needles. I was more nervous about bringing the baby home and being able to take care of him. The night before the big day my husband slept like a log and I tossed and turned all night I finally got up at 4:30 because I couldn’t sleep any longer. I got out my ipod and continued to practice our song we picked out to sing during the deliver (its your birthday by R Kelly). I woke my husband up at 5 and we rushed around the house getting things together and headed out at 5:45 and were all checked into the hospital by 6:15.

The nurse in pre-op was awesome. I still wasn’t feeling nervous and Mike was doing pretty well too. He even stayed with me while I got the epi and did a great job being a supporter. Every time I got a little nervous or felt any pain I just sang my song. The EPI wasn’t working and it ended up taking 30 min or so for it to fully take affect and the had to increase the dosage several times before it would take. Just in the nick of time I was numb all the way up to the top of my stomach. They rolled me into the operating room right on time 8:10. My husband had expected to be really nervous but he did great he was right by my side and we talked and sang our song. We had watched Baby Story over 100 times and had expected the surgery to be over in 5 minutes and so as the time passed by we did start to get a little nervous. The nurses were right there with us wondering why it was taking so long and peaking over the curtain. He was stuck by the fibroid and they ended up having to use a vacuum to get him out. We had totally forgotten the words to the song at that point and just kept sing do-do-do-do-do-do. The nurses were cracking up and I am sure they thought we were crazy. After 24 min of tugging I finally heard the words I had been longing for “here he is”. He had lots of hair said the doctor and then all of a sudden I heard him scream. It was so surreal to hear his little voice for the first time. The sweetest sound I have ever heard. My husband thought he was going to cry but he was so excited it was just full of joy and had the biggest smile I had ever seen.

Shortly after they took the baby and Dad in to get a bath and stitched me up. After a few minutes they rolled me in to be with my husband and new baby. I hadn’t really gotten a good glimpse of him before that point and my husband and I were looking at him just saying wow he truly is beautiful just beautiful. After about an hour in recovery we were taken to our room where we had our first feeding that went excellent he latched right on and I was so proud of the both of us. The delivery was perfect every moment of it was like a dream and this is how our story begun….
