Reese-Olivia-`s birthstory
HELLO EVERYONE!
Reese was born on 3/14/08-She is absolutely beautiful and perfect and it`s amazing to just look at her.
Heres the story...
Fri. at 1:15am i was laying awake in bed-not unusual since the last couple weeks I felt like I was hardly ever sleeping. As I was laying there I started to think I lost control of my bladder so I got up to go to the bathroom (I didnt want to get my hopes up since by this point I`d given up the hope of going into labor before my duedate)...however once i stood up I knew it was the real deal. Water just kept coming out and it was a really bizzare sensation. So, once I was in the bathroom I yelled to Rob and said I think my water broke...he woke up and was standing in the bathroom in 1 second flat and out of breath-lol. we went to labor & delivery right away since thats what we were told in childbirth classes. Once we were admitted the doc said I was about 2.5cm dilated (out of 10). I wasn`t having any contractions yet-and didn`t reaaly start getting them til about 6 hours later. They (the docs) said I was officially in labor at 9:30am. So, overall, I was in labor for under 12 hrs which I was happy about. around 10am the doc started me on pitcin to speed up and intnsify my contractions. They started getting pretty painful and about an hr and 1/2 later I got the epidural (which wasn`t too painful after they administered the local anesthetic). I went numb instantly, though i could still sense touch and move my legs (minimally). After a few hrs the docs came in and there was NO change! That kind of made me nervous since you have to deliver within 24 hrs of your water breaking. Then the doctor (who I really didn`t even like in the first place) started pushing the idea of a c-section which scared me and was exactly what i didn`t want-so I started crying and being a baby and our nurse (who was AMAZING) calmed me down and told me the doc couldn`t make me get a section unless Reese was in danger and she supported my decision to keep uping the pitocin and ride things out. So, we did. she stayed in the room with us for the next 2 hrs & actually talked the dovtor into giving me time to rest and let my body work-so from about 3:30 to 5pm I went from 2.5 cm to 10 cm and ready to push. They set up the rm quick and the doc told the nurse to start pushing with me. AN IMPORTANT SIDE NOTE...my epidural wore off entirely about 10 min to 5 and it was too late to get more!! Anyway...everything I read about 1st deliveries said pushing usually takes 2 hrs-well, i started at 5::25 and after 2 contractions and 6 pushes I looked at the clock and saw it had only been 5 minutes and i was in a lot of pain and knew there was no way this whole `pushing part` was going to take me 2 hours. then 20 min. later, Reese was born. I kept checking the clock because each minute felt so long. I was proud of myself because I don`t think I said anything mean to anyone and I don`t think I really was yelling in pain or anything like they do in the movies, lol. At one point I asked the doctor if she could just pull her out because it hurt so bad to push and at the same time to not to push. Rob said her head was 1/2 way out when I asked that and the doctor just stood there and said it was all on me (again, this doctor was not very helpful, good, or supportive). When Reese finally came out she was bright blue and I kept asking if she was breathing, but they put her on my chest and once Rob cut the cord she started screaming and breathing and turned bright pink. It was really amazing, and still so hard to believe. She weighed 6 pounds 11 ounces and was 19 inches long. She has big alert eyes (when they`re open), dirty blonde hair (and a good amount of it), and olive skin. Her fingers and toes are long and skinny and I think she`ll definatly be a swimmer :P
She`s SOOO tiny. Her newborn clothes are really big on her and she`s not a chubby baby at all (yet!). Since we`ve been home she has been really peaceful and cuddly. Not a whole lot of crying and she slept really good last night. The only time she woke up was when I woke her up to nurse her. That was what I was most nervous about, sleeping while she was asleep. In the hospital she was in the nursery so I knew there were people watching and making sure she was okay, but going to sleep with her asleep was a little nerve-racking. I slept with the bassinet right next to the bed and my hand was hanging over into her bassinet so i could feel her legs moving and know she was okay. As the days go by, I`m sure I`ll become more comfortable with everything. We are about to give her her 1st sponge bath at home :) I hope you enjoy looking at the pics (there are more under the pic tab). We`re having so much fun being parents and just looking at her and holding her, and sometimes it makes me cry to look at her and see how perfect she is. We love her so much!
