Juliana-Grace`s birthstory
After being 12 days past due I started having contractions around 8 pm on Weds night, they were coming around every 8 minutes. I called my husband at work around 9:30 pm and told him that he should head home, thankfully he only works 10 minutes away. I called my midwife and told her what was going on, she told me to labor at home as much as possible and call her when the contractions get to around 5 minutes apart or when I can`t take it anymore and want to come into the birth center. Well not even 10 minutes later my contractions started to come pretty quickly, I called my midwife again and she told me to come on in that she would meet me at the center in 45 minutes ( she lives about 40 minutes away). I did my breathing exercises and laid down until it was time to go. We left for the birth center at around 11and what only took 10 minutes felt like forever. My contractions were about 3 minutes apart and I was dilated to 6cm. I labored in bed for a while and then got into the tub, the tub was great! I was soon dilated and effaced completely I started pushing around 3 am. That`s when things got hard. I pushed for almost 3 hours changing positions frequently, in and out of the tub and nothing was working. Her little head was stuck under my pelvic bone. At that time I couldn`t handle the pain anymore, I had already been in labor for over 10 hours. I decided to be transferred to the hospital to get an epidural to see if that would help me to relax and move her head down. When I got to the hospital my midwife stayed with me and my husband and the midwife on call hooked my up to the monitor. Everything looked good, mine and the baby`s heart rate were great. I got the epidural after about an hour and tried to rest for another hour. Then I started to push again, after 2hours of pushing I still wasn`t able to get her head down. Both midwives could tell the head was in not in the correct position and no matter how long I pushed for I wouldn`t be able to get her out vaginally. A c-section was the best route to go, I was sad for a bit but I knew it was the best thing in the end. I was wheeled into the OR and had my little angel Juliana Grace at 12:53 pm. She started to cry immediately and I was in love. My husband got to cut the cord and then he went with her to the nursery while I was in recovery. I learned a lot over the past few days. I was hoping for a completely natural delivery but I`m so glad that she came out healthy and in the end that is what really matters. We are both doing well, I came home on Sunday. She is latching on well and very bright and alert. We went to the pediatrician yesterday and all is well, everyone loves her especially her head full of hair. She is already melting hearts!
