I woke up on Friday Morning 11th Dec at 3:30am to my waters breaking.. i got up excited as anything told hubby to go back to sleep and id go and get the rest of my bags packed then come back to bed too... i ended up in the kitchen doing dishes, put a load of washing on, tidied the lounge room.. lol
Anyway 1/2 hour later, contractions started, near on 5 mins apart, they continued pretty much all day and we just hung out together at home labouring away.. looking back it was just lovely really, just how id imagined it!
My midwifed called me around 1pm to find out why i hadnt gone in to the birth centre yet, even though my contractions were stronger, they were still at 5 minutes so she came around to our house to do an examination - she couldnt tell how far dialated i was as the bubs head was in the way so we went into the birth centre so she could re- examine there.
Once we got there she told me i was not dialated at all (this was 12 hours later!!)
So they hooked me up to the monitor thing that checks my contractions and babys heartrate and watched it for about an hour, then suddenly one of the contractions made a big bang noise and more fluid gushed out (sorry tmi i know!) and then the contractions picked up to 1-2 mins apart and really up there on the pain scale! I continued on like this until around 7:30pm when my midwife had told me I was 9cm dialated and it wouldnt be long and we could start pushing, i was so excited, i was thinking i was almost about to meet my girl :)
Then after more time i still wasnt progressing, so another Dr came in and examined me only to tell me i was only 4cm dialated not 9!!!!! WTF??? I kid you not, i was down on my hands and knees swearing and screaming, my confident, positive state of mind went out the window and they gave me some pethedine (so far till then id only been using gas) I was so upset still and in so much agony I requested an Epidural, which they did for me immediately and i then spent about another few hours in labour only feeling tightenings which was a welcomed relief!!
Anyway, I got to 9cm's in the end and couldnt dilate any further, have no idea why, and the babys heartrate kept dropping, so they insisted on getting her out via C-Section immediately.. at 11:45pm I was in the operating theatre and my baby girl, Ruby Neve was born at 11:58, i remember Hubby and I watching the clock, hoping she'd make it before 12 midnight, and she did :)
They placed her with me straight away, it was so wonderful, i cried and cried and cried, she is so perfect..
the recovery for the C-section is fairly brutal, but the joy of having our baby totally wipes away all the pain... I cant believe how much you can love someone so very much that you only just met!!!!
What an awesome experience, one i will treasure for the rest of my days :))
