Original due date: April 8th 2009
Type of delivery: Vaginal (with pain relief)
Duration of labor: 10 Hours
Weight @ birth: 4 pounds 4 oz
Length @ birth: 18 inches
I went to my 36 week appointment, expecting it to be non-eventful just as the others were. I was getting my vitals taken by the nurse, she got up without saying anything and came back 5 minutes later with my file and told me to go to labor and delivery. I went up there, got yelled at by everyone because I had no idea why I was sent there, and then sat in an exam room for four hours before anyone even came and talked to me. They told me I had high BP and wanted me to be admited for 24 hours to take urine samples. 2 hours shy of the 24 hour mark they tell me they're just going to induce me.
I get moved from the mother/baby unit to L & D where I'm hooked up to magnesium to paralyze my muscles (aparently mothers with high BP are prone to siezures), hooked up to pitocen and had a folic cathader inserted. It took FOREVER to get to 7 CM (I was stuck at 4 for hours and hours) but once I got there I jumped to 10 CM within about 20 or 30 minutes. The nurse started me pushing. Hubby actually watched, which suprised the hell outta me. It felt like I only pushed for like 15 minutes, aparently it was an hour and a half. They took the baby away right after she was born to start her on a detox IV to get all the magnesium out of her system. They kept me on the magnesium for another 24 hours after birth just to be safe so I was stuck in bed and didn't get to see my daughter until she was a day or two old.
She was born Thursday morning, I was discharged Saturday and she was discharged from the NICU Tuesday.
I hope I NEVER have to go through that expierence again. Aside from giving birth to my daughter (what is supposed to be the worst part was the easiest and most enjoyable for me)...the whole process was the longest and most awful expierence of my life
