Its about time I got around to this... =]
It all started in the middle of the night on Wednesday May 13th. I woke up around midnight with the most painful contractions I had ever felt. I seriously sat straight up in bed and just focused on breathing. This continued to happen about every 10- 20 mins, but they wern't getting closer together, so I just tried to get some sleep inbetween. Well, at 2am I woke to use the bathroom and as soon as I wiped I noticed that I had lost my mucus plug. There was no blood or anything, so I just went back to bed. At 6am my alarm went off, and I did not want to get up and get ready for work, seeing how I only got rest in 20min intervals. But I powered thru it and got myself out of bed. I told my sister about my night and she began timing my contractions. I also called my mom and said " I just had the worst night of my life, I lost my mucas plug at 2am and Im not sure if this is it, but you might want to head over today!" My mom lives in Idaho, about an 8hr drive away and was planning to come that Saturday, since my due date was actually on Wednesday, May 20th. She said she would grab her bag and head out right away. While I was getting ready for work, my sister continued to time my contractions which had the same intensity, but now were coming about every 4-8 mins. At 7am, we headed to school. (I work at a Middle School, which happens to be located right behind the High School where my siser attends.) Upon arriving at work, I walked into my class and informed the other staff members that we may be having a baby today. I told them all about my aweful night, and they could see for themselves how painful my contractions were because they continued to come about every 6mins. My co-workers talked me into calling the doctor to at least inform them about what was happening. (I didnt want to call the hospital because I was afraid they would want me to come in and see that my contractions wern't close enough together and then they would just send me home and tell me to wait it out. ) I called and left a message, and continued to go about my work day, to the best of my ability. It was aweful, all my students were so concerned that I was going to have the baby at school! haha. I guess it was a good lesson for them about the pains of labor. Anyway, The doctor called me back at about 11am and she told me that I needed to head into L&D to at least be checked out. I called over to the H.S. and had my sister meet me at the car. We stopped by the house to grab our hospital bags, just in case and then headed to the hospital.
We arrived at the Hospital at about Noon. They checked me in and hooked my up to the monitors. The nurse came in and checked me, I was 3cm and 100%. They said they wanted to wait an hour and check me again. If at that time I was still progressing they would keep me. My back was killing me! That was the worst part... with every contraction, I would break out in a sweat and my back was aching so bad. I decided to sit in the jacuzzi tub in my room and relax for that next hour. It felt so nice. =] When I got out and the nurses came back in to check, I was at 4cm. She said "Your having this baby today!" I then began to txt everyone in my phone. All my co-workers were waiting to hear if this was really it or not. I also txted my mom to let her know that we were at the hospital and to just meet us there when she got into town.
At about 2:15pm, I got the epidural. It was worth it. The pain in my lower back was no longer there...Amazing! My mom got to the hospital at about 3pm and they checked me again and I was now between a 5-6cm. Shortly there after, the baby's Daddy got there. Around 4pm two of my co-workers came to see how I was doing and brought gifts and flowers. I love those girls! =] We all just sat around and chatted. It was really calm and peaceful. Then at 7pm they checked me again and told me that I was ready to start pushing. I had the nurse ask the baby daddy to leave the room, so that it would only be my sister, mom and me. I began pushing. It took about an hour and a half of pushing, but I think I could have done better if I had known what to expect. At the end, I was pushing a lot HARDER! And at 8:51pm on May 14th Emma Grace entered the world! The nurse asked if I wanted them to put her on my chest and I said NO! haha. With every push and contraction, I was getting really hot and nauseous, so I just needed a few mins to calm down and feel like I wasnt going to puke. When she came out, she was just bright eyed and looking all around the room.... the cord was wraped around her neck twice, which surprised the doctor and the nurses because she showed no idacation of this...the doctor said "we have double cord" I asked "what does that mean, does she have two!?" Everyone laughed. They quickly cut the cords and she wasnt crying, so they hooked her up with some oxygen and she began to cry. They started to clean her up and by then, I was ready... I said I want to hold my baby! and they put her in my arms. It was the most amazing moment of my life. My mom then went out and got Paul and he came in the room and had tears in his eyes as well. It was all worth it, every moment and every pain. I couldnt be more blessed or happier. This lil girl has changed my whole world and life is only going to get better from here on out! =]
