Keira-Ruth-Hildegard`s birthstory

I had typed up Keira`s birth story once before and it didn`t save for some reason! I went into hospital on the morning of the thirteenth to be induced. I had the half a milligram of the pessary gel put on my cervix at around ten that morning. I was then having mild and semi-regular contractions until the ob/gyn came in around two thirty that afternoon and swept my membranes for a second time (the first time was the day before). That really got things going and I began having painful contractions every two to five minutes. But my labor didn`t really begin until around four that afternoon. I went and had a big bath in one of the delivery rooms and that helped alot with the pain. Michael was very supportive of me and I`m so glad that he was there to help me through. I was only in the bath for about fifteen minutes before I felt like I needed to push. So, I was wheeled into the next delivery room and my waters were broken around five o`clock I believe. I was having gas for the first hour I was in there and then asked for a shot of pethidine as the contractions were becoming a bit too much for me to handle with the gas alone. The pethidine helped me cope with the contractions better than I was, but in between contractions I was just about sleeping! I was so zonked from the pethidine and the toll of the labor. Keira was sleepy from the pethidine too and my contractions were doubling up, which was incredibly painful. At last, I felt like I had to push, like... really push! I was saying `I need to push! Can I push now?! I need to push!` I was worried the ob/gyn was going to say `No, you aren`t fully dilated yet` but she said I could push when I got the next contraction. I was like `YIPPEEEEE!!!` in my mind! But when I got the next contraction, I didn`t push hard enough. But I really pushed for the next three or four contractions. That got Keira`s head out at last! Michael had to cut the cord before her body was delivered though because she had the cord wrapped quite snuggly around her neck. The bit that hurt the most though was pushing out her shoulders! Oww! That felt more painful than her head! But when she was out, she was placed straight onto my chest. Michael and I were in complete awe of her. We didn`t even realise she was a girl for about the first ten minutes. We were just so happy that we had a little baby! Landon was the first visitor we had and he was so thrilled to have a baby sister. He went out to the waiting room with Michael and was screaming to everyone so excitedly that he had a baby sister! It`s definitely a night that I will never forget. We are so blessed to have two happy, healthy, beautiful children.
