Birth Story
OK this is not my first try to write my birth story but with two babies under the age two they keep you busy!!! So on September 29th I woke up went to the bathroom and got my daughter out of bed, changed and dressed. Then we started playing with her mega blocks. When I reached for a block I felt like I peed my pants..but I had just peed not even 10mins ago. Thinking how weird I got up to go to the bathroom to check things out. I didn't smell urine but both my underwear and shorts were soaked so I changed and went on playing and getting ready on Monday's I have my daughter 14 months and niece who is 12 months. My mom and Damian (b/f) happened to be home that day. When Kerry(sister) arrived with her daughter, Kayla I shared the news with my mom and her. Then went to take a shower before getting in the shower I had a "bloody show" so called the midwife after my shower they said to come in and get checked. I was 39wks5days. At the hospital the elevators were running so slow and I was sick of waiting (not feeling any contractiond or anything but so ready to meet my baby!) Walking up the stairs to the 5th floor thank god I wore a pad boy did I start leaking sorry if TMI but my pad probably weight a good solid pound by the time I got to the bathroom. The nurse hooked me up and the midwife on call came in to talk to me, checked me with a strip to see if it is my water (turns blue if your water has broken) well it turned blue right away. Now I was giving my option she said we want to monitor you for at least an hour because baby is not very active. As long as baby gets active when you eat you can either get induced with pitocin or choose to go home wait things out but have to be back by 11pm if not to get induced. Well by 2pm we were on our way home just a 15-20min ride home I got hit with 4 hard contractions. Went in my room timing contractions 3-5mins apart for the next hour. By 4pm I was back in the hospital this time in a bed and crying the pain was so bad. They needed me to get a bag of fluids before they would let me get my epidural. At 5pm I was 4cm. So thirsty they said not to drink to much then all of a sudden I yelled for the bucket I was so sick throwing up which made me more thristy. Then the man who made at the pain go away came in for my epidural!!! After that I felt great barely feeling even pressure. The midwife came in at 9pm to check me to see how things were going then said ooo wow your fully dialated but the baby is still up high. So I did pushes to see if the baby would come down and the baby did. So doing 4 sets of pushing counting to 8 (my idea..was easier to push on the last two sets though) At one point the heartrate dipped with the baby and they made me stop to make sure it was safe to continue this is when I had to start wearing the oxygen mask when I was not pushing. At 9:51pm Jason Damian was born weighing 9lbs 6.1oz and 21.5inches. I got to hold him for a second and then the nurse took him. His apgar scores were 8 both times and the nurse didn't like his breathing so she called the pedi. to come in. Two came in right away like they were sitting outside the door. At this time the midwife told me I didn't tear but I am losing a good amount of blood. She was trying to deliver my placenta but was having no luck. All I could do is watch them exam him and try to get him breathing normal while answering questions. Damian's face he was so scared not knowing to stay with Jason or me he quickly came to my side because he saw the blood I was losing. Finally they got my placenta out and a huge clot that was between my placenta and uterus. I had a horrrible pain under my belly button while pushing they told me it was pressure but was gone when the clot was. So now they told me they needed to take Jason but he was OK they let me hold him for a second and off my little guy went. While giving birth I spiked a high fever so they started an antibiotic, fluids and pitocin because where the blood clot was my uterus wasn't contracting. At 4am Tuesday morning a nurse came in and took me to see my baby. He was in the level two nursery (it is the highest level this hospital has) on 100% oxygen and hooked up to a ton of monitors. A sight you never imagine you will have to see your baby lying there and nothing you can do for him all the beeping of his and the other baby boys monitors. They told me if he does get worse he will be taken into town to a hospital with a NICU. So many emotions running through my head all I could do was cry. I was so scared for my baby boy and missed my little girl so much and felt so alone I would wake to a baby crying but not mine the women who had there babies in their rooms with them. Wednesday at 2:30pm I went to the nursery to find out that Jason was off the oxygen for 5 mins so far and doing GREAT!!! My little guy was also getting antibiotics through an IV because they weren't sure what got me to spike a high fever. I needed the antibiotics for 24 hours and he needed them for 48 hours. So we needed to stay in the hospital until Thursday morning. Naming Jason was a lot harder then we though would be his dad picked Peter Anthony but I just could not picture calling him that so called him to say we need a new name. Well on Wednesday night we sat on the phone going through names he liked Jonathan, Jospeh and I really liked Mason so we finally said why not Jason. First I said no because if we have another boy I want Mason but he hated the name Mason so I agreed the middle name was easy. Not even thinking anything of it we have been asked if we like scary movies..which we both do but with the name Jason Damian after two horror movies. It never even crossed my mind. Sorry this is so long but here it is my birth story of my son. Even though he was 2lbs heavier then my daughter giving birth to him was so much easier.
