Scarlette-Brielle-`s birthstory

Well, we had our induction time set up for 8am on Saturday morning, but as fate would have it, L&D was full at that time. They were finally able to get us in (thanks to the push from my friend and mid-wife) at around 1pm, at which time they started me on Pitocin. Things went smoothly and I was able to use my relaxation techniques and breathing to keep calm and focused through the contractions as I was determined to do it natural with no epi or pain meds. - Just a quick background here - I had a single umbilical artery and had been worried all through the pregnancy of any issues arising due to it, so the health of the baby was foremost in my mind, and I wanted to keep things as natural as possible so as to not cause any undue stress to her adding to the SUA factor. - At 8pm my midwife checked me and I was only a 4, and in quite a bit of pain, and the baby`s heartrate had decelerated several times, so they told me they were keeping a close eye on that. I also sort of lost focus after hearing that I had only progressed to a 4 in 7 hours... But she said they had turned the pitocin WAY down after my water broke (around 6) and that everything was probably going to be really fast from this point on. So I managed to survive the next 50 minutes before I was saying `Get someone in here to check me because If I am not making progress I`m going to need SOMETHING!` So back in came my midwife and she said `yep, your at 7, and if you get up you`ll probably shoot to a ten in a few more contractions.` So I got up, by the grace of God at this point since I was in so much pain, walked into the bathroom, sat on the toilet for 3 contractions and BOOM, I needed to push like there was no tomorrow. So I got back to the bed, pushed a good 6 or 7 times, and Scarlette was in my arms! She had had the cord wrapped around her neck which was causing the decels earlier, but the midwife was able to get it over her head when I was pushing and she bounced right back. My husband was the greatest coach in the world keeping me calm and focused, and my sister provided the same kind of support as well! It was certainly not pain free, but worth every minute! So her big sisters are in love, and a great deal of help, and we are more than happy that she was a big healthy 8.6lbs and beautiful as can be!
