Kiley's Birthstory May 1, 2006:

Sunday April 30th, Noon, My first contraction. I was in the living room and all of a sudden I had pain so bad it took my breath away and took a while to stop. I had to sit down. Phew-what was that? I looked at the clock. 4 pm, another one! Whew, that's not fun, maybe I should lay down. Took a little nap, got up and made dinner. Thought nothing more about it.

8 PM, BAM! Another one, this time I had to sit down or I was going to fall down, looked at my watch. I had another 15 minutes later, could this be it? I had yet another 15 more minutes later, but much less intense. Then they spaced out for about 20-30 minutes. Then back to 15 again, what is going on? Then around 11 pm, they started to be 10 min apart, then 8. By midnite, they were 5 min apart and my hubby asked if I wanted to go to bed! I told him I didn't think we would be staying home much longer and if he wanted to take a shower, he better do it now-all color left his face and he ran upstairs to get ready, guess he wasn't as prepared as he thought!

While he got ready I finished packing, checked my email, made sure the dog and cat were fed and had gone out and we left. Had to stop to get gas and snacks, it took FOREVER! (A reminder to do this beforehand next time!) Stoplights were all blinking yellow, got to the hospital in 10 minutes. By this time it is 2:30 am.

They have me fill out paperwork (even though I had already done this at my labor class and sent it in, apparently there is more). By this time I am shaking, and they wheel me back to check me. 6cm!!!! Would I like an epidural? Yes, but right now I am going to puke-hubby gets me a basin and I continue to shake and throw up until they bring me back to a L&D room. Here I wait 45 minutes for the anesthesiologist. I get setup and finally start to relax, by now it is 4 am or so. We take a break and nap for a little while. 5:30, I call my sis and my mom. Sis is there by 7, mom has a two hour drive.

8:30 am, I start to feel everything again, I get checked and am at 9cm. I start to get the shakes again and feel like throwing up-little sis looks nervous and decides to wait in the hall! 9am, ready to push and epidural is definitely wearing off! They tell me they wanted to turn it down so I can feel how to push. I start pushing each contraction with a nurse until my doc comes in and reprimands my nurse! I am only supposed to push on every other contraction at first. ARRRRRGGGh
By now my mom comes to the door, she just arrived, and I have her wait with my sis, I know how scary I must look at this point and am about to rip the handles off the bed! I didn't want my mom to see me in such pain.

Finally, after many many pushes, 10:20 she is about to crown, doc does a small episiotomy (with my permission) and out comes her head! Have to stop pushing and then push to let out her body, with one big long swoosh she is out-strangest feeling in the world! 10:27 am 5/1/06 Kiley Elise is born. 6 lbs 9 oz. 20 inches. Original due date, May 6th.

At first she had a little trouble regulating her temp and was a little cold, nurses had to give her a sugar solution to give her some energy and to help her warm up. A little jaundice on day two, but were cleared to go home. Perfect little girl!

Addison-Olivia`s Birthstory July 31st, 2008

Wow! What a difference from my first birth. Felt kinda nauseous/upset grumbly stomach at midnight on Wednesday the 30th. Went to bed warning my husband, today could be the day. Woke up at 2:30 and just couldn`t sleep. Went and got on my computer and blogged on the site and checked out the contraction timer. Was having braxton hicks but they wouldn`t let up they just kept coming. Not very painful just very often and annoying enough to keep me from sleeping. From 3-5 am, they were every 3 minutes, the entire time! Went and woke my husband to tell him what was going on and that I would wake him when I really wanted to leave. Took a shower, got my things together and tried to relax. Woke up my mom at 6:30, woke up my hubby at 7. By this time I had a hard time walking, things started to move along all of a sudden. Got to the hospital by 8 am, scared I wouldn`t make it through the school rush hour traffic! Got checked at the hospital, was at a 4 and was moved to a labor room because my water had started to leak as well. Got my antibiotics started for my Strep B and waited. Couldn`t get my epidural until they started the 2nd round of antibiotics. Breathed through contractions every two minutes, hubby was awesome, I was super calm because I felt like I knew what to expect this time. Got an epidural around 11 am and relaxed for a while. Was 6cm by this time, mom and sis came to back me up as well. Around 1pm contractions started to get very intense, got checked was at 7. Checked again at 1:50 and was 10 cm! Now I could hardly stay still, felt a LOT of pressure all of a sudden. Doctor moved quickly to set up her equipment and the broke my bed down for delivery. Before she could say push, I had to push!!!! This part flew by, pain was excruciating, pushed twice and felt `the ring of fire` and the doc asked me if I wanted to feel her hair! I screamed no, I just wanted it over and her out!!! Third push, out came her head. Suctioned her mouth, one more push and her shoulders and body followed. Very small 2nd degree tear (which seems to be much easier to heal from then the small episiotomy I had last time), got a couple stiches. Baby was placed on my belly immediately and I cleaned her off with the towel and tried feeding her after a few minutes. She latched right on! Let her suckle for 40 minutes, then they took her to check her out and clean her up. Amazing birth, so glad it went so quickly, she seems to be a feeding champ. Totally recommend trying to feed ASAP if you plan to breastfeed-made a huge difference from last time. We are all home now and doing great.
